My childcare bubble have symptoms....

As per the title really.

My DM (60 years, in better health than me) has my children after school 1 day a week as I work and I can't get them in the after school club. She volunteered to do this.

She now has cold like symptoms, but with a fever. She is getting tested tomorrow.

Do my children need to self isolate, or is that only if it's positive? And by extension, do I need to self-isolate, even though I've not actually been in her house for months? (The kids are dropped door to door)

Thanks

You're kids need to self isolate, you do not. If she's negative they can come out of self isolation.

Yellowmellow2 · 02/12/2020 19:48

You would only need to isolate if they develop symptoms.

KitKatastrophe · 02/12/2020 19:59

Kids self isolate until she gets a negative test.

You dont have to self isolate as you werent in contact with her.

PurpleDaisies · 02/12/2020 20:06

From the government website relating to childcare bubbles, it looks like you might all need to isolate until a negative test comes back.
I might not be reading it right though.

It would depend when the children. Were last with her and when she started with symptoms

When did both those things occur ?

hedgehogsarecosy · 03/12/2020 07:54

Thanks everyone.

They were last with her last Friday - so 6 days ago.

If she didn't get symptoms till after Sunday then none of you need to self isolate.

Frazzled2207 · 03/12/2020 08:30

Agree I think it’s 2 days before onset of symptoms you are potentially infectious.
However out of an abundance of caution I would be keeping the kids off until negative test result. Is there anywhere else she could have caught covid? I’d be suspicious as we have a similar childcare bubble situation but MIL hardly goes anywhere else at all so difficult to know where she could catch covid other than from the children

Haenow · 03/12/2020 12:02

It’s only if there was contact in the 48 hours before they showed symptoms. When did she become unwell?

justmewithmylifetoday · 03/12/2020 15:16

As others have said children only need to self isolate if in contact with gp within 48hr before symptoms started. And this is only if the gp tests positive. Only those in contact need to isolate after a positive test, so just your children.

PurpleDaisies · 03/12/2020 15:24

Only those in contact need to isolate after a positive test, so just your children.

But the GP is a member of the childcare bubble. If any member of a support bubbles gets symptoms, they all isolate. The link I posted earlier seems to suggest that childcare bubbles are the same. I’m happy to be shown a link that says I’ve got that wrong.

Here, I think the time frame might be in the op’s favour anyway.
