Retired nurse here. I am on the Bring Staff Back Register. Have been contacted By the NHS (Monday). I am well used to giving vaccinations. Anyone else on MN been contacted yet?

Hi. Recently retired and registration very recently lapsed.

Volunteered but they don't want me 😂

Spudina · 02/12/2020 11:45

Not contacted but there is a job on the NHS website that I’m tempted to apply for. Can do up from 6 hours a month vaccinating. I work 30 hours so am thinking i could do an odd day. Easier than an NHSP shift.

Hugosmugo · 02/12/2020 11:55

This is great news. I really hope they can keep to their timeline. I imagine our hold backs will be storing the vaccine rather than finding enough people to administer it

Mariebarrone · 02/12/2020 11:56

Spudina if you are already registered with Nhsp they where also looking for vaccinators.

Thanks for doing this Flowers

JacobReesMogadishu · 02/12/2020 11:57

I've signed up via nhs professionals probably about 5 days ago now. Haven't heard back, they said they'll be in touch within 10 days.

JacobReesMogadishu · 02/12/2020 11:59

Have to admit I don't particularly want to do it... Im exhausted by my substantive job without spending my weekends doing this but I feel I should. They're going to need so many people.

Mariebarrone · 02/12/2020 12:30

Don’t tell Matt Hancock but I’d have done it for free it it means getting people vaccinated!!!

JacobReesMogadishu · 02/12/2020 12:34

I'd have done it for free as well. 😁

Moofart · 02/12/2020 13:42

I signed up to NHS professionals too. I'm a retired nurse

PrivateD00r · 02/12/2020 13:51

Yes I have offered to do this on top of my usual role. I don't really mind whether I actually end up needed or not, but happy to help out if it moves things along any quicker.

tboo · 02/12/2020 17:27

yes, actually, volunteer responders (am not NHS person, the community helper scheme anyone could sign up to). They said they could train us even if we had no clinical background.

I do a huge amount of volunteering already so wasn't keen. And I hate needles!!

Dontrainonmyparade · 02/12/2020 19:26

Yes, I have an interview with my local trust on Friday, and NHSP have contacted me to progress my application with them. I’ll be honest, I’d prefer the casual role within the trust because I don’t have good past experience with NHSP (I find them disorganised, to say the least) but I’ll see what happens with both.

vintagenurse · 02/12/2020 20:10

I am a HV working 4 days a week, our trust have done a deal with the trust in our area with the vaccine contract, so that we can all sign up on their bank to help out. I've sent my email off so just waiting to hear back from them. I'm planning to do 1-2 4 hr shifts a week

Spudina · 02/12/2020 21:01

@Mariebarrone that’s good to know thanks. I was with NHSP but haven’t done a shift in 3 years! I might look into signing back up again. Also, my specialty doesn’t do IM injections so I really need to get some practice at it!

Powerplant · 02/12/2020 21:13

Hi I’ve recently retired and registration lapsed last couple of months. Does anyone know if there is a volunteer position and not a paid one? I’ll also have a nosey around too.

JacobReesMogadishu · 02/12/2020 21:18

I think St. John’s ambulance may be sorting out volunteer vaccinator roles? Not sure how true that is but I did read it.

Powerplant · 02/12/2020 21:31

Thanks yes just found St Johns thanks but they are working through their volunteers first I believe. I’ll keep searching.

Understandingnotignorance · 03/12/2020 01:12

So heartwarming to read all the posters on here willing to offer their services as volunteers.

BritWifeinUSA · 03/12/2020 03:50

My mum is retired (very recently) and has “registered her interest” in being a vaccine giver.

JacobReesMogadishu · 03/12/2020 13:05

Just had an email say they'll be in touch in the next week

picklemewalnuts · 03/12/2020 13:08

This is a lovely thread. It's so heartening to see practical steps being made, in real life. We're on the way out!

Thank you, all those signing up!

trumpisaflump · 03/12/2020 14:39

I’m a hospital pharmacist in Scotland and all clinical staff were emailed on Monday morning to ask if we can work extra hours for mass vaccination clinics starting early next year. We cannot work any hours over the Working Time Directive but that’s ok for me as I’m part time. The clinics will be run from 8am to 8pm seven days a week. I have offered to work shifts on the week days I don’t work and on weekends. I’ve never given an injection before but I’m assured there will be full training provided. I’m happy to do all I can to help get this vaccine rolled out.

Just wanted to add THANK YOU. To everyone on this thread stepping up. It’s made me quite emotional tbh. It really can’t be done without you and because of you I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to hug my elderly Grandad again. Thank you. Flowers
