Support thread for those who are taking the vaccine

There are a lot of threads discussing vaccine concerns. I would like to start a thread for those who have decided to take the vaccine, for whatever reason. No discussions about the dangers, please. There are other threads for that. This is for people who have weighed the risks and decided to go ahead. Maybe we could discuss our reasons, when we hope to get it, and as vaccination begins, how it is going for us.

My husband is Type 2 diabetic and we are S Asian, so I am hoping we both get the vaccine in the clinically vulnerable category, and hopefully by April. It helps that both of us have taken all vaccines recommended ( and then some) and have never had side effects. I am an expat and am hoping the vaccine will reduce, though not eliminate the risk involved in flying back to see family as well.

Oh good, have killed another thread:) Perhaps I am premature.

Considering the amount of definitely unhealthy stuff (booze, cigarettes, Class A drugs) I've pumped into my system over the years, I'm not going to worry about a little vaccine!

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 02/12/2020 09:59

Me too!!! I’m 57, dh is 61. I’m desperate for it.

We have a teen in school and a Millennial who is saving to buy a house. I want them to have freedom too and not worry about us.

timeforawine · 02/12/2020 10:03

I'll be at the back of the que but me and my husband will have it, my mum is a nurse and has been drafted onto Covid wards a few times so i can't wait for her to have it as i'll worry less. Same for my dad as he is diabetic and overweight
Bring it on :-D

Boredsilly · 02/12/2020 10:05

I'm 45 and DH 38 so we won't get it for months but will definitely have it without question!

Frequentflier · 02/12/2020 10:08

Thanks for the responses. I have a 20 yr old at university and a 16 year old. Both healthy so I guess they won't get it, but I would like them to not have to tiptoe around us. As it is, the 16 yr old is constantly worried abt his dad every time he gets a minor cough.

I am 50. I have cerebrovascular disease, microvascular angina, fibromyalgia and arthritis.

Too damn right I am having this vaccine when offered, am sick of hiding in my house, I have been out twice since Feb, both to essential appointments. I want some life left before I die, I am not ready to die yet I am too young.

Frequentflier · 02/12/2020 10:10

I am well aware that the efficacy of the vaccine is still in doubt, btw. I will still be taking precautions and avoiding large crowds, but hope my husband can at least go into the office a couple of times a week post vaccine, if that is not too much to hope for.

I’m definitely having it as soon as they will give it to me. I’m not expecting it any time soon, although I’m in the vulnerable group I don’t make it into the vaccine priority list but I’m young so will happily wait my turn.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 02/12/2020 12:09

My mum is NHS staff so should get her first jab this month.

My dad is 70s and CEV so he won't be far after that.

Both me and OH in the CV group 6.

Bring it on!

tootyfruitypickle · 02/12/2020 12:34

I'm booking an overseas holiday the day I get the jab !

Primulachristmas · 02/12/2020 12:35

Of course I'll have it. To protect other people

Frequentflier · 02/12/2020 12:36

I will be going to an indoor restaurant!

I can't wait and neither can my DH. He's about to have cancer surgery and at least we can enjoy our lives as the outcome for him is uncertain.

Onekidnoclue · 02/12/2020 12:39

I’m 39 with no underlying conditions so will get it as and when I’m offered. I have a little boy and I think part of doing my best by him is helping to build the human shield around him of immunised adults.

FourTeaFallOut · 02/12/2020 12:43

And by support thread...do you mean party?

ZooeyS · 02/12/2020 12:44

God yeah! I’ll be near the back of the queue but as soon as I am allowed, absolutely.

Frequentflier · 02/12/2020 12:46

This is a great reason. And I do agree.

I'm very low priority but will have it as soon as offered. DH works in a hospital and will get it before Xmas. He's been organising their trust's plan for getting all staff their first dose starting next week I think. Lots of excitement all round!

diplodocusinermine · 02/12/2020 12:49

We're both getting it as soon as offered - as will my 92 year old mum, my brother and his wife, and DH's brothers, two of whom are doctors. We'll not get back to any kind of normal until this happens.

CheckMyLeftPhalange · 02/12/2020 12:52

I’m a teacher of small, snotty humans. I’ll be there with bells on.

MrsBeltane · 02/12/2020 12:52

I'm going to have it, I'm also going to be giving it to others.
I'm late 50's asthmatic and over weight.

Nosnogginginthekitchen · 02/12/2020 12:54

Another low risk person here, but I have immuno compromised friends, friends with diabetes type 1, elderly parents, DPs mum is on immuno suppressants - we will be getting the jab ASAP. Then we'll be going to gigs and on holiday and all the stuff we wanted to do this year and couldn't

loutypips · 02/12/2020 12:55

Probably way down the list - but yes I will have it.
The thing is in this day and age no medication or vaccination would be passed as safe if it wasn't as we are now in a sue society. It simply wouldn't be in any of the companies interests to work on something that would bring a lawsuit to them.
