Morning all.

So DD and I have been self-isolating due to a close contact at her wraparound care. Subsequently, several others have gone on to test positive.

DD has been fine throughout isolation and is due back at school today and myself back at work tomorrow.

However...DD started with cold symptoms a couple of days ago. An extremely runny nose and sneezing impressive strings of snot (apologies for being graphic!). She's also been very tearful and sleeping in later than usual.

I've woken up this morning with a stuffy/runny nose.

I know neither of us have one of the "Big 3" symptoms, but now I'm starting to second guess whether I should be taking DD to school today/myself to work tomorrow. We have literally been nowhere for over 2 weeks to catch a cold!

What do you reckon?

Personally I would test.

Even without a cough/temperature/change in taste and smell?

I want to do the right thing, as it were, so on the one hand I don't want to be taking a test and further time off work (keyworker) unnecessarily and on the other I don't want to pass this on if it is anything nasty. I think if we'd gotten runny noses outside of self-isolation, I wouldn't be second guessing it. It's purely, because we've stayed in for two weeks and now we have the sniffles.

Ended up keeping DD home for one more day, but I suppose if neither of us develop a cough/temp/change in olfactory sensibilities, then we really should go to work/school tomorrow.

Hope that made sense. Like everyone else, I am so done with this year!

I think if you have completed your isolation from the contact you are fine.

dumbledory · 02/12/2020 13:01

Thank you. Do hope that's the case. Smile

Yes of course you should get a test, though you don't technically have to continue to isolate. In these circumstances I probably would though, as you have definitely caught a virus and I think the common cold usually has a much shorter incubation period (not sure though).

My county lists sneezing, runny nose and excessive tiredness as symptoms requiring a test but not isolation. The EU also lists these (and has done for months) as some of the main symptoms in mild to moderate cases. So in the circumstances its very possible that you have a mild case of it.

I would run this one on a costs/benefit analysis.
If you and /or she has covid and isn't tested, what are the costs? That a load of people are exposed. The benefits are that she goes back to childcare and you to work.
I would test and stay home for the extra day myself.

I've got covid but never had one of the big 3, so get tested asap before going back to work and school.

ThisTooShallPass20 · 02/12/2020 14:34

Please get a test! You got symptoms during the isolation period.

Opentooffers · 02/12/2020 14:38

My symptoms, sneezing, sore throat, occasional nose run, tiredness and body aches. Never had a cough. I have lost taste and smell, but this did not happen until later on about 3 days after testing positive and I was clearly not well before that. Never had a temp. Don't rely on the big 3.

starrynight19 · 02/12/2020 14:39

My first symptoms were sore throat and blocked sinuses / runny nose. I had also been isolating for 7 days since contact with positive cases.

justmewithmylifetoday · 02/12/2020 15:01

Test. I tested positive with only cold symptoms. I've now developed more symptoms. Most schools now recommend testing with any sign of illness now. Hope youre ok op.

Medstudent12 · 02/12/2020 15:11

I’m positive. I thought I had a cold. Get a test. The results will be back before you know it.

midnightstar66 · 02/12/2020 17:14

I'd get a test, results are coming back quickly most of the time so an extra day you'll be worrying and potentially infecting people

dustyknickers · 02/12/2020 17:39

I was positive, passed to me by my husband as he was the only person I had contact with. I've had full blown severe covid, he didnt get a test as he didn't have the 3 symptoms and thought he had a cold. Obviously he was wrong.
