I can’t live like this anymore. I’m absolutely fed up of living in fear.

All I’ve done for the majority of the year is go for walks.
I’ve not been in anyone’s house since February.
I’ve not met friends for dinner or a glass of wine.

I’m absolutely fed up of wiping my shopping down. I’m fed up of constantly worrying I’ve got symptoms.
I’m absolutely petrified I’m going to die and leave my son.

I’m 33 I have a high BMI (above 30 below 40) I have mild asthma and I have an inflammatory autoimmune disease. (Not on medication)

I’m on maternity leave but due back in Jan.
I actually don’t think I can cope being at work, indoors and around other people.
There is no option to work from home.

My son will be in nursery which puts him and me at risk.

I wasn’t on the shielding list but how soon am I likely to qualify for the vaccine?
I qualify for the flu jab.

I can’t live like this :(

Wow, the scaremongering has really done a number on you.

Our government should be strung up followed closely by the media.

Yep. And people who have fallen victim to it will not be reasoned with. If you tell them you're cracking on with your life, you'll get the 'covid is no joke' spiel. Well, no, it's not but when the vast majority of us will fully recover, why would we willingly sacrifice everything that makes life worth living?

I've even seen comments like 'if I get it, I WILL die!' It's insane.

Sunnysideup999 · 02/12/2020 09:07

Can you speak to your GP? They will talk you through your risks, and hopefully give you some comfort. Being at home all this time is not good for your mental and physical health. It is not recommended unless of course you are shielding or extremely clinically vulnerable, which it sounds like your not. Your GP I think is your first port of call here for questions on your risks and vaccine eligibility

ssd · 02/12/2020 09:11

It's not insane and its not fair to minimize the ops fears telling her she'll be fine. No one knows how covid will affect them and that's what's behind the ops fears. It's the unknown we are still living with that's so scary.
Some people will have been out and about since the start and not caught a thing. Dh went to a pub once since March and caught covid, off work for weeks.
Its pot luck.
As I said before to the OP, being you is a real advantage, try to get out for some fresh air every day and thank God a vaccine is becoming available. All the very best to you @Itsthewinenotthelabel

userxx · 02/12/2020 09:16

@borntohula Absolutely agree with you. My friend with mild asthma is convinced she will die if she gets it, she's more likely to die in a car crash. I have no idea how we will start to undo the damage done to so many like the op. Sad times.

borntohula · 02/12/2020 09:30

@ssd well I'm sick of people 'maximising' fear. Stay indoors forever if you're that afraid ffs.

ssd · 02/12/2020 12:22

Where did I say I was staying indoors forever
And you can keep your ffs

userxx · 02/12/2020 13:04

It's not really though is it. It’s been proven that the vast majority of people are absolutely fine. What is scary?

Redannie118 · 02/12/2020 13:14

I have a serious chronic illness( Systemic Sclerosis) and ive had breast cancer, surgery and treatment this year. I never wipe down shopping, met friends and family outside and went out for a couple of meals before we were placed in tier3. You are worrying way too much about this OP. Its very very common for PND to present as health anxiety. If you dont address this, then when you do get the vaccine you will just fixate on something else health related asa vaccine cannot fix MH issues. Please speak to your GP or HV. If this year has taught me anything, its that life is too bloody short to be scared all the time of something that may not happen. Good luck.

Itsthewinenotthelabel · 02/12/2020 13:29

@Skipsurvey

op what is the worst that could happen? genuinely, speaking as another anxious person, with comorbiities but older than you

your job will be covid secure for a start.
you are young.
do what you can but dont dwell on it

@Skipsurvey

I could do be up on a ventilator and die.
I’m petrified 😔

But there are things you can do to lower your risk: get your vitamin D Level checked. You don’t even have to go to the doctors for this. A private blood test is not that expensive. Take vitamin D if your levels are low. Start to take zinc and vitamin c.
Lose some weight (I have been doing this ) and investigate what you can do with food to lower your inflammation levels - reducing sugar is a key way.
All these things are within your control. It will help you feel less worried. Rather than just waiting for an injection. It will also improve your health all round.

Brunt0n · 02/12/2020 13:38

I don’t the vaccine will magically fix this for you.
Your anxiety sounds disproportionate. Even if you were 75 and had those conditions, you’re still more likely to survive than you are to die. But I don’t think your anxiety will let you believe that. Please get help Flowers

I agree. While it's not healthy to live in a constant state of anxiety and means to manage it should be sought, there is too much minimising of Covid on here. A lot of people seem to want to pretend it's nothing to worry about. Therefore when they see some one expressing fear, they presumably feel threatened, and have to paint that person as being irrationally anxious.

I'll be honest there's no prentending going on nor do i feel threatened, I feel sorry for the OP living this way when there is no reason to.

loobyloo1234 · 02/12/2020 16:24

I've never washed my shopping OP, have been working throughout, and not caught the virus - if that helps. 'm also a similar age to you

Your anxiety does seem disproportionate. However were you told to shield within the first wave? I've not seen you mention this. If you were, presumably you fall into the under 65 but vulnerable category

Baileysforchristmas · 02/12/2020 17:01

Wow i’ve never wiped shopping down. I go into work every day, i’ve been to London on the train and met people for lunch, daughter at secondary school, out for meals, gone to the pub, husband going to work meeting different people every day, not one of us has been ill, maybe I am very lucky?

Wolfiefan · 02/12/2020 17:22

It is being irrationally anxious to constantly think about the possibility of dying.
OP isn’t in the most vulnerable group. I was shielding and suffer anxiety but not as much as OP.

userxx · 02/12/2020 17:39

@Baileysforchristmas I wouldn't say lucky, population of 66 million in the uk, 1.6 million confirmed cases 🤷‍♂️

Tootsey11 · 02/12/2020 17:40

Op if it helps, I'm 45 with 4 auto immune conditions and 5 other chronic conditions. I've had covid very early on, but just as easily could get it again.

I work in other people's houses.

Im at a higher risk than most but I'm carrying on as normal. You can't continue as you are. You need to see your Gp, get help and live your life. I know how consuming things can get, I've been there.

Newgirls · 02/12/2020 17:45

Do you have a favourite cafe? Would you feel able to go out for a coffee? And then perhaps a meal out with your partner? It might help you realise how safe these places are now with social distancing, endless cleaning etc. It might help build up your confidence that the world isn’t quite as weird as it might seem online etc x

BornAgainCountryBumpkin1 · 01/01/2021 18:37

I’ve tried the newest calculator just out of interest & it says May-June 2022.....I’m almost 36 & have mild asthma, not that this bothers me much day to day. Seems like it could take a while.

stevalnamechanger · 01/01/2021 18:40

Can you speak to your doctor about help for potential anxiety? X
