If your 8 year old (or roundabouts) has tested positive how did they present?

We are in a very low rate area, soon to be tier 1. There has been one positive case at school and that was weeks ago requiring no bubble closures.

But last night ds had a temp of 103, dropping to just under 102 after Calpol. Not too bad in himself, tired with a headache. His temp is ok this morning but he now has a sore throat.

Obviously none of us will be going to school today, but I suspect that it is probably a variant of the cold that I've got. Have ordered a postal test to be sure.

If your child of around this age has tested positive how did it effect them?

Our headteacher (years 3-6) has sent a letter asking parents to keep kids off school and get tested for any cold symptoms - runny nose, sore throat, headache, fatigue, aches and pains as well as the 3 symptoms normally required for a test.

DS is 10 and had no symptoms apart from a loss of smell (not taste) for a few days about a week after testing positive.

Ds is 7 and presented exactly the same as your child, sorry. High temp and headache. They were his only symptoms. He picked up after 24 hours. I expected test to come back negative but it never. Hope he’s ok!

I've spoken to lots of parents with positive children and in most it does present as 'just a cold' not even a temp. So if he has a temp thats even more reason to do the test. I'm pleased you have ordered one x

Hi my nearly 8 year old tested positive 2 weeks ago, he had a cough and tummy bug symptoms, no high temperature, no loss of taste or smell. He's had much worse coughs before!

His temp has dropped this morning thank goodness, so it probably isn't. But between us we span a lot of bubbles (he's in yr 4, I work in yr 5, his sister is in yr 6 and little brother in nursery 😬) better safe than sorry. 😬

My DS is 8 and had these same symptoms last week. High temp, sore throat, headache and sore tummy. His test was negative. My other DS had same symptoms a week later. School wanted him tested too, also negative. It could be covid but could easily be another winter bug.

Our school is secondary, but are no staying tummy ache, D&V, headache, cold and do not come in.
According to local PHE branch all are possible early signs for children

Almost all the cases I know about in that age range had fatigue and headaches, so it does sound like your son may have it. I actually don't know any who have tested postive with a cough, and any who had a loss of taste smell only had it after the positive result.

Headache, eye ache and one bout of vomiting.
