Can you pass on the virus if you have had it?

For example, my mum has had it.

If we had to self isolate over Xmas and my mum visited us, having had the virus herself just a couple of weeks ago, could she then pass it on to someone else?

That is of course assuming we had the virus, I am just thinking of the risk to others catching the virus through someone who has had it already and then had contact with someone who has had contact with another person.
Is it possible?

Nothing to say she can't. Who knows if it could still be lingering

There probably is a small chance of passing it on from 2 weeks ago, but if she caught it again before Christmas, again not likely, but possible, then she could. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any guarantees at the moment.

I read on here that you can still be a carrier and spread the virus even if you've already suffered from me. God knows if that's true or not.

It can take a while to be clear of it. I have a friend who had a swab test and it showed as positive for 3 consecutive weeks.

But after was negative. I don't think you can pass it on unless it's active.

They don’t know. That’s why you still have to isolate if a close contact tests positive but you’ve already had it.

It is not yet clear whether a vaccine simply prevents illness in the vaccinated person or whether it also stops them transmitting the virus. I would have thought that having antibodies via an actual infection wouldn't be all that different to having antibodies from a vaccine. On that basis it seems to be the case that we don't know if/for how long immune people can transmit covid if they are exposed to an infected person.

A member of my family has had it and had an antibody test a couple of months ago confirming the presence of antibodies. Elderly relatives now think she is perfectly safe both from contracting covid again and from transmitting it. My view is that all we actually know is she had covid and she had antibodies a couple of months ago.
