N/C because this is a bit outing.
I work in a frontline job where we get tested weekly.

I’ve just been told that a test I handed in ten days ago is positive!
In that time I’ve stayed overnight with my parents (I’m a single adult so am in their bubble), have met friends for coffee and lunch (it was my birthday this week) and done an extra shift in another hospital in another tier.

I’m so angry, I would have done none of this if I’d known. I’ve had no symptoms so would have never known if I didn’t have regular tests. I’ve put so many people at risk.

I’m just here to rant, I feel like they haven’t upheld their end of the deal.

@InsideNo7

It's got nothing to do with whether you're in lockdown right now or not, it's about assessing risk. Of course you're entitled to support but all parties have to accept the risk involved with that.

I haven't seen my parents inside all year, despite us posing a very low risk to each other (have basically all been shielding apart from DD going back to school in Sep.) We figured there's still the small risk we could be asymptomatic from a shopping delivery or something, and it wasn't worth it.

We figured that socially distanced contact outdoors was probably a risk worth taking, but I'm not sure we would have even done that if I'd been a frontline worker.

We all make our choices.

Oxyiz · 29/11/2020 12:35

We've pretty much isolated since March really but then there are two of us, and it hasn't been a real hardship. I feel so much for anyone living on their own.

Of course its risky to meet up with anyone right now, but the risks are taken by both sides, and the risks of endless months of isolation aren't good either.

Nicknacky · 29/11/2020 12:36

Lucindainthesky So you don’t live on your own then? Then your judgment of the op is unfair.

InsideNo7 · 29/11/2020 12:37

Thank you to everybody posting- the people criticising me aren’t saying anything I haven’t thought myself. However on reflection everything I’ve done has been within guidelines for my area and I’ve co-operated with testing, masks, hand gel. I walk three miles and back to work 5 days a week to avoid public transport. I can’t do any more with putting my mental health at serious risk.
I have reported to the relevant people at both Test and Protect and my work. I will be speaking to my clinical nurse manager tomorrow as it’s quite a serious clinical incident.

Where have you been having coffee and lunch? We're in lockdown. Restaurants and cafes are closed.
Nicknacky · 29/11/2020 12:41

Ringading You do realise there are places they are NOT England, right?

Hard to imagine, I know!!

InsideNo7 · 29/11/2020 12:42

@Lucindainthesky good for you, I haven’t been able to shield. I get my own groceries so people who need slots can get them. I don’t have any kids so don’t have to worry about asymptomatic spread in schools. I don’t have a garden, I do live in a city that relies heavily on the tourist industry, so I don’t mind giving money to ailing businesses now and again to try and prop that up. I think we could all have a good go at judging other people right now, if we wanted to, but I’d rather not.

Scotland! She’s been having coffee and lunch in Scotland.

InsideNo7 · 29/11/2020 12:42

@Ringading7 In Scotland. For the 3rd time.

MarshaBradyo · 29/11/2020 12:44

Are you still using PCP tests? I’ve seen those new ones around that are minutes for NHS staff, can’t recall what they are called.

Yeh days return is pretty pointless.

TheGreatWave · 29/11/2020 12:45

ring Again not everyone lives in England, honestly the judging is unreal.

MarshaBradyo · 29/11/2020 12:45

Yeh - ten

loobylou10 · 29/11/2020 12:47

God I wish people would read a thread before commenting.
OP - that's so shit but don't feel bad. I hope you take it further and the powers that be sort this shit show out.

InsideNo7 · 29/11/2020 12:50

@Pipandmum the reason we get tested isn’t so much that we’re at higher risk - we haven’t had Covid patient in months and all patients admitted with a temp or cough gets moved into a special triage ward, and treated as positive until proven otherwise. It’s to protect my patients from me, as they have very poor immune systems. As such, they also get tested very regularly, so any cases have been picked up quickly. But like I said, no positive cases on the ward in months, and I haven’t had to review any positive patients (yet) as I have a specialist role. Just felt that was worth clearing up.

OP posts:
InsideNo7 · 29/11/2020 12:53

@MarshaBradyo yes we are still using the PCR swab tests, no talk of the fast tests yet.

OP posts:
Isadora2007 · 29/11/2020 12:54

What’s done is done @InsideNo7and you’ve followed guidelines so nothing else you could have done really. Would your parents get tested in case they too are asymptomatic ?

InsideNo7 · 29/11/2020 12:55

@Isadora2007 they are now isolating until the 7th.

10 days is unacceptable I agree.

My birthday was during the ‘relaxation’ period and I didn’t meet anyone indoors, despite being allowed. I’m not a front line worker either. I just decided the risk was too high to them and me.

When we did get a positive test within our household we only had 2 close contacts to report to test and trace within the past 10 days and one of those was school. The other was a youth club in a ‘COVID secure’ environment.

DumplingsAndStew · 29/11/2020 12:56

Wow, another perfect example of people who live with their head up their own (English) arse.

That's shit OP. I hope they take your complaint seriously.

BestOption · 29/11/2020 12:57

@InsideNo7

Of course I understand the risk is always there, but have done lots of things I wouldn’t have even considered had the results come back within a reasonable amount of time. I took the test on Friday, met my friends on Thursday and did my extra shift the following Friday. Surely a week is too much.
It surely you don't expect same day results? You had the test on a Friday, you go to your parents for dinner every Friday...

I do think just because it's not against the law to do something, it doesn't mean it's sensible to do it.

I live alone. I'm not meeting up with anyone, anywhere.

Lucindainthesky · 29/11/2020 13:00

@InsideNo7 so what you're saying is that in addition to being a frontline worker you're also in and out of local shops and cafes and then seeing your parents. It's honorable that you are helping local businesses but again, we all make our choices. But blame it on the testing system by all means.

itsgettingweird · 29/11/2020 13:01

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss

Testing length was unacceptable and you should raise that.

I’m so angry, I would have done none of this if I’d known. I’ve had no symptoms so would have never known if I didn’t have regular tests. I’ve put so many people at risk

We are in lockdown to stop the spread and protect the nhs so you shouldn’t have been meeting friends for lunch regardless of test outcomes or not. That’s not on the testing length but decisions made.

Except if you read the posts she's in Scotland where she can meet friends etc outdoors.
Nicknacky · 29/11/2020 13:01

Honest to God...is this what we have become?

Judging someone because she had a coffee with friends and visited her parents?!

That’s great some posters have chosen to be alone, genuinely good for you (although some of them do mention “we” in their posts) but the op has done nothing wrong, legally or morally so fuck off with the judgment.

Walk a mile in their shoes etc.....

KitKat1985 · 29/11/2020 13:02

Ahh I'm sorry OP. Obviously all social contact comes with a risk at the moment, but 10 days for a test result is ridiculous, and completely negates the point of doing them if they take that long.

Some people on this thread have completely unrealistic expectations of HCP. We're in lockdown in England and I've not seen anyone socially but still have one child at school, and one child at nursery, and lots of face to face patient contact, so would like to know asap if I was covid postive.

haircutsRus · 29/11/2020 13:03

If it takes 10 days to get a result, there's not much point in that sort of frontline job routine testing is there?
