Seriously? I’d be suggesting she does one or the other - friends get-together, or family Christmas, but not both. It’s that kind of fuckwitted behaviour that will see hospital admissions and deaths rise in the new year. If it was my adult/student child I wouldn’t want them mixing with family after mixing with friends and would ask them to stay away.

KatherineJaneway · 29/11/2020 06:42

Meet outside yes, inside no.

Skipsurvey · 29/11/2020 06:50

well I did say no,
she is not happy

Can you point out how many households that would be of does she not care? It seems awful selfish!!

boatyardblues · 29/11/2020 07:15

@Skipsurvey

well I did say no, she is not happy
Well done, and Choices have consequences. She needs to learn this.
hopefulhalf · 29/11/2020 07:23

Is she getting a test before leaving campus ? if so she needs to meet her friends, wait 5 days, test, then come home-simples ?

Skipsurvey · 29/11/2020 07:49

it is her friends from home, most away at uni afaik, at least 2 in high areas of covid.
she is getting a test before she comes home, as i believe they all are. i am sure they can convince themselves they are all ok

Well you can't tell her what to do,she's an adult
But you can say that she cannot do the family Christmas
We have spoken to ours and they have agreed to self isolate until after the family Christmas dinner with their grandparents

TotoroPotoro · 29/11/2020 08:05

It's not even legal unless you're in tier 1.

This is exactly how covid spreads.

Good on you for standing ground. She's putting all of you at risk.

DarceyDashwood · 29/11/2020 08:07

She can go for a walk in the park/freeze in the garden like the rest of us! Well done for saying no 👍

Figmentofmyimagination · 29/11/2020 08:15

I’ve just bought my student DD her own picnic rug as an early Christmas present for this purpose, although it’s probably warmer if they keep moving.

LizzieSiddal · 29/11/2020 08:18

Can I ask why she’d need to isolate for 5 days before getting a test?

Well done for saying no OP.

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 29/11/2020 08:22

What tier are you in?

Skipsurvey · 29/11/2020 08:23

tier 2 currently,

OP posts:
Incrediblytired · 29/11/2020 08:23

Can’t they just go for a walk and a beer in a beer garden where it’s legal to meet outside?

Skipsurvey · 29/11/2020 08:23

dd currently tier 3 which i am pleased about, but i am not sure about her friends, purple i believe on the gov website but that is ever changing

OP posts:
alreadytaken · 29/11/2020 08:26

Have they all had covid yet and how are they getting home? Any of the could pick it up on the journey back if using public transport or from their families - you are mixing with everyone their families have seen in the last couple of weeks.

I'd say no too - come back at Easter.

Skipsurvey · 29/11/2020 08:28

i only know of one who has had it but i am not privy to all information, so the one who has had it thinks she is invincible.

OpheliasCrayon · 29/11/2020 08:28

Id let her see her friends. How sad for her that she can't.

HeartZone · 29/11/2020 08:28

I have similar problem OP.
They will be allowed to visit gyms, supermarkets etc when they’re home and could be meeting with up to 6 at the gyms.
While we have to be sensible we can’t lock them indoors for five weeks!
(They probably won’t socialise as in meals out, etc plus I don’t think that is allowed). But we as a family will be eating out.

Skipsurvey · 29/11/2020 08:30

it is going to be tough @HeartZone isnt it

hellsbells99 · 29/11/2020 08:33

If you are in tier 2, she could arrange to meet them in an outside area at a pub or restaurant for a meal and a drink.

Ifailed · 29/11/2020 08:33

Can’t they just go for a walk and a beer in a beer garden where it’s legal to meet outside?

Only in tier 1. Otherwise you can't just go and have a beer, in tier 2 it has to be with a 'substantial' meal & in tier 3 not at all.

Skipsurvey · 29/11/2020 08:35

that is daft that you can go for a meal in a restaurant but not in a house?

slipperywhensparticus · 29/11/2020 08:36

Mine is zoom meeting her friends
