How long did you need off work?

I’m 13 days from onset of symptoms so due back at work on Monday. I’m just wondering how long people needed off work, I know this will vary. Today I was so tired I only got out of bed to eat. Yesterday I spent many hours coughing.

Also odd symptoms but I’m drinking a lot, a cup an hour when awake. But my urine output is a lot less. I’ve only passed urine 3 times today. Is this a weird symptom or do I just need to drink more?

I had a positive test on a Saturday, started to feel ill the previous Thursday. Was back at work on day 11 with the tail end of a headache and cough. All symptoms gone by day 21, I was more tired than usual for a few weeks and had lots of early nights.

Try and eat healthily, and get a bit of fresh air if you can. Too much sitting around doing nothing can make you feel worse.

I got long covid so had 6 months off work

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 29/11/2020 12:16

I had 3 weeks off work. But tbh I wish I took longer. I am 6-7 weeks out the other side and still having days where I'm exhausted and wheezy.

Don't underestimate how long you need to kick this illness.

GreyishDays · 29/11/2020 12:18

I’m same as you dates wise but hoping to be back a bit tomorrow. I have patches where I can potter about and patches where I’m exhausted and feel awful. The good patches have only really started in the last day or two.

sociallydistained · 29/11/2020 12:21

If you're that unwell definitely take more time off.

sociallydistained · 29/11/2020 12:22

Also, I'm so sorry you've suffered with it :(

KatySun · 29/11/2020 12:56

I was off for three months but symptoms lasted longer. I was able to work from home and we had various deadlines so I went back. Not the best decision in retrospect. If you are still that unwell, speak to your doctor and stay off longer. I kept thinking I should be better but I was still quite unwell.

Yellowmellow2 · 29/11/2020 13:14

Can you work from home? Or be phased back into work? When you test positive you have to isolate for 10 days (not 14, unless you still have a fever) but most people need more than that unless they’re asymptomatic.

WorriedNHSer · 29/11/2020 13:20

A cup of water every hour is a bit excessive especially if you’re not passing much urine. Did you go a good amount the 3 times you’ve been to the toilet? If not I’d have a chat with your GP, especially if you have any breathlessness or swelling.

Covid is a strange virus. It’s extremely common to need more time off work especially if you have a more active job. Don’t rush back. Wait until you can manage a normal days activities and not feel too tired. I went back too soon and ended up back off sick. It seems like a lot of people do because it’s hard to tell how you’ll manage until you try.

I hope you feel a lot better soon.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 29/11/2020 13:22

Had a month off. Since diagnosed with long covid. I thought I was going mad tbh. I'm still working even though I have my really bad days. The nhs isn't very nice regarding sickness

drinkingwineoutofamug · 29/11/2020 13:24

It effects your kidney function, well did mine so try not to drink too much water as will do more harm than good.
Constipation as well, brain fog, breathlessness, rashes , chest pain, palpitations, muscle pains . The list is endless .

Take care op

Foxinsocks1 · 29/11/2020 13:38

I’ll try to drink less but I feel thirsty and have a dry mouth, dry lips etc and darkish urine. I worked from home the first week of symptoms but felt too unwell last week so had the week off. I don’t think I’ll be able to work from home so will be expected to be doing 4 home visits a day and basing myself in the office if I go back. I think I’ll speak to the GP tomorrow and probably take another week then reassess and will mention the kidney possibility, I have had some mild back pain in that area but have been easing that with a hot water bottle

I would phone doctors and get urine sample checked if it’s darkish and you are drinking a lot, possible urine infection.

iamusuallybeingunreasonable · 29/11/2020 14:04

I took no time off work as I was working from home and it's been stupid busy, now I felt like death, but when wfh there is no one to tell you to just go home.

I took probably half a day one day when I felt like death, otherwise worked from my sickbed.

In hindsight, a proper rest would have stopped me getting so run down afterwards, and 6 months on I still don't fell 100%, in fave far from it and ache everyday, have a heavy feeling in my chest wall and just generally have no energy.

PrivateD00r · 29/11/2020 14:20

Sounds like dehydration, I had the same due to vomiting and high temps persisting for 18 days. Takes a while to catch back up.

I am still off, symptoms started a month ago. I am hoping to go back in 2 weeks. I work 13 hour shifts on my feet so need to be well. I also still have a dreadful cough and am very chesty so would like that improved a bit first. I don't think any patient will want me near them with this cough. Also very weak, fatigued and achey still.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 29/11/2020 14:35

I was off for 14 days. I'm 28 days in now and still needing early nights but otherwise ok.
