Is it allowed? We have booked a cottage near my parents so we can see them over Xmas. We are in tier 2 - low numbers - they are in Scotland - in level 2. Planning to travel 21-28 Dec.

Bloody ball ache -thought the four uk nations were planning to have the same rules for everyone? But they're not at all. Totally different in Scotland. Anyway.

The dates are really annoying, they could at least have included the bank holiday (28th) We're working on the 23rd and the 24th.

@megletthesecond

If we see people we aren't travelling until after isolating for almost two weeks after school. Possibly new years eve. I want to make it as low risk as possible. Can't see the point of seeing people at Xmas without isolating 😬.
Good for you. That has no relevance to the question asked by the OP though.

Just go, I would. Seriously, make your own assessment of the risk (COVID, being caught, any other associated risk) and then go if you decide it's sensible.

Chances of being caught: exceptionally slim

Chances of being caught on the border and being turned back when you explain: vanishingly slim

Chances of police stopping your gathering of 9 people rather than 8: non existent

Chances of having a really glum Xmas if you don't go: very high

The rules are the rules either break them or don’t. There is little point complaining or trying to justify it tbh

we will probably drive back first thing on Monday 28th rather than join the rush on 27th. Its only 4 of us meeting up. i don;t think the risk increases between Sunday pm to Monday when already spent 5 days together.

And I am assuming I won't be seeing them again until vaccines roll out anyway.

If the govt decide to really make a huge deal of ENDS ON 27th, we'd probably head home then as all law abiding people, but then higher risk of accidents on motorway!
