I Feel Sorry For Cornwall.

I’ve got a feeling they are going to be inundated with tourists over Christmas. I’ve seen so many social media posts asking for recommendations of where to go in Cornwall. Pubs and restaurants are going to be so busy, whilst good for the economy, not good for the local residents.

This doesn't make sense. If it's good for the economy then it's also good for the local residents. Who do you think is running those pubs and restaurants, other than local residents?

Besides, there will be a limit to the numbers which such venues can accommodate if they are allowed to remain open, so they can only be so busy.

Don’t feel sorry - booming tourism and wide open spaces / sea air to blown away the virus !

My parents live in a tourist area. It’s really hard because a lot of local businesses are struggling but they don’t have the resources to deal with a large number of covid cases. They also think they will get inundated with visitors over the winter holidays.

Well, we need the trade and are grateful for it after the washout summer, Cornwall relies on tourism a lot. That said, most people seem to be apprehensive at best about the massive influx that is about to happen. I won't be able to get much done out and about as it will be so busy and impossible to social distance even when I pop to get food. I'm not looking forward to that much. I'll basically just stay at home more or avoid the centre/shops.

Gonna make the most of nice walks around the deserted town in the evenings before the 2nd! Grin

Yes but there are a finite amount of beds for rent and people won’t be camping in winter

HesterShaw1 · 28/11/2020 11:14

You don't need to feel sorry for us. I feel sad and sorry for everyone else - genuinely.

During the summer, it was the busiest Cornwall has ever been. And that's ever. It was fine. Yes I know it was summer and people were outside, but people are still outside. Pubs and restaurants will continue to take the precautions they have been all year. It's not like we'll all be in pubs together singing and hugging. Christmas and New festivities will be cancelled. People will keep themselves to themselves and just enjoy the outdoors. Hopefully the weather will be ok, with a nice fresh breeze.

That’s a good point about there being no campers as it’s now winter.

I wouldn't feel sorry for them. They're just fine. Manchester and yorkshire though....

WeCanFlyHigher · 28/11/2020 13:23

Feel sorry for them? I don’t, they’re one of the only areas who are allowed to see their family and friends indoors.
I feel sorry for the people in Leicester for example who haven’t been able to do that since March.
The people of Cornwall coped fine with the influx of tourists in the summer, and will do again.

I don't feel sorry for us and I am very grateful for our Tier 1 status as DH works main suppliers is restaurants and pubs. We can stay at home and let the visitors make money for the economy.

I don't think mass tourism should be encouraged anywhere is the UK right now though.
