Included in the at risk group for vaccine

@satnighttakeaway But do you seriously believe that this vaccine is being rolled out in line with current practices for drug testing and development? Clearly it's not going to go through the avg 10yr testing. The DM article is trying to make it sound like obese individuals are getting the vaccine before pregnant women. In reality the current info is that pregnant women are going to be informed they should wait until after the pregnancy precisely because they do not know the effects. As for choice to opt in/out of having the vaccine. There was a thread yesterday where several posters who work in a carer environment have already been informed they will be expected by their employer to get it. So their 'choice' is going to be you either have it or look for another job. I honestly believe that'll be the pressure put on to people working in a lot of sectors.

It's a good time for people to look in the mirror and ask themself if they really want to be the kind of person who complains about people who are morbidly obese getting a vaccine.

'It's a good time for people to look in the mirror and ask themself if they really want to be the kind of person who complains about people who are morbidly obese getting a vaccine.'

Because it is a totally preventable condition unlike asthma, cancer and diseases that require organ replacements.

Of course obese people should get the vaccination, as should everyone. Not as a priority though. I'm not saying they should be at the queue or anything.

RishiMcRichface · 28/11/2020 14:21

Yeah but don't you have to be a bit of an arsehole to think that way.

DianaT1969 · 28/11/2020 14:39

Just to mention that obese people are often low or deficient in vitamin D. The same as BAME and elderly groups.

PuzzledObserver · 28/11/2020 14:56

Obese people are more likely than normal weight people to suffer from Binge Eating Disorder - an under-recognised disorder which is actually more common than anorexia and bulimia combined, affecting around one adult in 50.

Not all obese people have BED.
Not all people who have BED are overweight or obese.
But the prevalence of BED rises with BMI.

www.beateatingdisorders.org.uk/types/binge-eating-disorder

If you identify with this, I want to encourage you to contact your GP for help. However, experience of sufferers suggests that may not take you very far, because even though BED is a recognised diagnosis with a NICE-recommended pathway for treatment, many sufferers find their GP unhelpful. Even if you do get referred, you may have to wait a long time and may struggle to access appropriate services. So try the Beat website, or search for Binge Eating Disorder support on Facebook.

This

Any vaccine decision should be based on need and if a morbidly obese person has worse outcomes than an average person than if course they should be first. Anyone who thinks otherwise because they believe it is preventable is an unpleasant individual.

As a person who has in the past been morbidly obese I know how difficult it is to keep weight off when you reach that stage.
I have struggled with my weight realistically for 18 years. My weight has yo yoed up and down from a normal weight to morbidly obese and everything in between. I am not lazy. I walk miles every day. I lose weight when things are good in my life and gain when they aren't.
Unfortunately bring an unofficial carer for 3 family members has taken it's toll. Fighting for the right help and support for two SEN children, one with quite severe MH difficulties who has been out of education for years is not conducive to self care. Some stop eating but clearly I overeat

2020 has a particular shitfest and led yo a huge weight gain.
Judge me if you will. I really don't care anymore.

Couldn’t give a fuck. Vaccinate whomever is most likely to need hospital care... whether that’s due to obesity, having no thumbs, or a middle name of ‘Dave’. Vaccinate them so we can come out of this fucking lock down.

P.s. I will be well at the back of the queue - if I ever even get offered one. Still don’t care. Get me out of this prison!

DianaT1969 · 28/11/2020 15:19

@ethelfleda - well said!

@Baileysforchristmas

I think this is a very good time for everyone to look at their diet and life style and make changes. We should all try and be healthier.
Because it's not that simple is it? Otherwise nobody would be obese.

My BMI is close to this but my GP wouldn’t know so how would I be contacted? I didn’t for the CEV letter, not that I wanted it.

I was BMI 42 in September and went on a diet to bring it down to 38 something as we speak.

FilledSoda · 28/11/2020 17:45

Are you insinuating they don't deserve it ?
No one wants to have a bmi of 40, they aren't doing it to be dicks.
We all benefit from vulnerable groups being vaccinated, it's literally a win win.

BeyondMyWits · 28/11/2020 17:56

I like living in a country where clinical need trumps perceived worth. Shows we are civilised.
