Do I need to isolate?

I believe the rules are to self isolate if you have had contact with someone with Covid within 48 hours of their symptoms starting. I guess the question is do you count in actual hours or just days.

Taught a child on Friday until 3.30pm.
6.30pm Sunday night child starts with being unwell.

Technically 51 hours later?

My thoughts are that I should. But actually me and the whole class for that matter have had a clear 51 hours before the first symptom.

Won't the school provide advice about who needs to isolate?

And as the positive test must have been a few days ago now, why didn't you ask as soon as you found out, rather than asking MN after schools have shut on a Friday?

Sorry I’ve just realised that this makes no sense. This is actually an in theory question! I wrote the bare bones (badly) and then got sidetracked and didn’t change it. The tenses are awful. If you can get past that, then what would answer be to the theoretical question?

Blimey. Can’t seem to type. Think I need to go to bed. It’s been a long week.

Technically no, but I'd be feeling a touch concerned if I were you, yes.

You should be observing social distancing and wearing mask if up close in class in a well ventilated class

Also your head teacher should have contacted and advised you already it shouldn't be for you to work out

No masks in primary schools.

A risk assessment would be carried out via the DfE helpline. I would push for bubble closure personally. Surely 48 hours and 51 hours are in the same ballpark and a young child might not have verbalised symptoms straight away.

There are no masks and there is no social distancing. The children are 4. They spend hours a day in my face in one room having a lovely time. As they should. Im not concerned about that. It is what it is. It was just something I was thinking about as a (likely?) possibility.

And I agree with you @Yellowmellow2

I would say 51 hours is sailing pretty close to the wind of 47hrs and therefore should isolate just in case. Risk assessing the scenario it is a large risk to take

Lifeispassingby · 27/11/2020 23:01

Sorry 48hrs not 47hrs lol

The assistants and teachers wear masks when up close to pupils in my sons primary school
