Can holiday properties open for the Christmas bubble period

In Tier3?
I thought we were okay (already booked in) when they announced the bubbles but now I am afraid they won't be allowed to open and so we won't be able to meet up.
We can't stay with my parents, who live in Tier 3, and they can't travel to us. We can all isolate before we meet, but it is all off if the flat isn't allowed to open.
We have emailed the owners but no reply yet.

Apparently only for those 5 specified days of christmas. I have a cottage in tier 3 and a week long christmas booking but unless we move into tier 2 on the 16th, we'll need to change their dates to the 23rd to 27th.

Op are you not staying with your parents because they are in tier 3 so you think it isn't allowed or is it a concern about the risk of passing something on?
Just wondering because the tiers don't count over Xmas.

Hugosmugo · 27/11/2020 18:57

Sorry tiers do count but I mean that you can stay with people in a tier 3 over Xmas.

Yes they can open - though i guess whether the owners choose to do so is another thing. I checked because our plan was for my parents to stay in a nearby AirB&B.

The government website says;
"You can stay in a hotel during the Christmas period, including in a tier 3: Very High alert area but only by yourself, or with other members of your household.

You can stay in private rented accommodation with members of your household, or your Christmas bubble."

Thank you everyone.
You have read the rules the way we did originally.
What confused me was that in the Christmas bubble guidance it says that once you have travelled to a different tier you should follow the rules for that tier. And Tier 3 rules say all accommodation must close. But I am back to being hopeful we may be able to do it!

Obviously we have to wait to see if the owners are prepared to open just for those 5 days - @Tarararara, we are happy to pay them for the whole week as we booked, so I hope they will be up for it.

@Hugosmugo I may stay with them for a night or two, but there isn't room for us all at their house and it is a bit overwhelming and confusing for my mum to have us sleeping on the living room floor and our stuff tucked behind the sofa.

I have to say that, even with the isolating, we also still want to limit contact a bit - I suspect our parents may well end up with medical appointments that break their isolation, and my brother is also next step down from cev (dad shielding).
