Supermarket test and trace

A person went to the supermarket on Tuesday. He says he has had a text today that a staff member has tested positive so he must test. And that if he gets a negative he is ok to be out and about.
I suspect that this is...bullshit. As far as I know if you get a text you are supposed to isolate and get a test for symptoms if needed. Regardless you must isolate anyway.
He says I'm wrong
I've checked and I'm certain I'm right, am I?
I also suspect (fucking know) he's lying about the text in the first place

Unless the staff member spent a very large amount of time (well, 15 minutes) helping him with something, it's highly unlikely that this would trigger a test and trace text anyway. So you could ask what he was doing in the supermarket that needed direct contact :)

GreyishDays · 27/11/2020 12:48

You’re right in that you isolate, you don’t test. Who do they think all these isolating people are?

dementedpixie · 27/11/2020 12:49

He would not be told who had a positive test. Unless he was in close contact with that member of staff for 15 minutes then he wouldn't be asked to isolate either.

Regardless, a negative test would not shorten the isolation period. He's talking crap

Cornettoninja · 27/11/2020 12:49

You’re right, it’s bullshit. What is more likely is that he’s heard someone in the supermarket has tested positive on the grapevine and now decided he wants a test.

It’s highly unlikely you’d be asked to isolate for fourteen days based on a fleeting exposure in a supermarket but if it did happen you certainly wouldn’t be released from that obligation with a negative test.

Is this person generally a bit of a bellend?

He's never gone along with lockdown, he's trying to get out of seeing our children. No way he's even got the app I just feel I'm going mad

And it could be an alert from the App, but it can’t be a text. It’s not like a restaurant where you leave your number. Where would they have got his phone number from?

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 27/11/2020 12:50

Honestly he's a piece of shit and now my kids will be heartbroken again. Sorry I just wanted to check
Thankyou

Sorry you’re having to deal with such a loser Flowers

I hope you can have a nice time with your dc regardless.

Nicknacky · 27/11/2020 13:05

I’m sure he won’t mind screenshooting the text as proof then!

So many men are using this as an excuse, it’s terrible.

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 27/11/2020 13:16

I did ask him for a screenshot, funnily enough it hasn't come.
I'm so done

Bizarrely, I was in a homebase branch (as a customer) and they had posters/signs up at the entrance asking you to scan the nhs app 🤷🏼‍♀️
