How is Havering tier 2?

Much higher rates than lots of parts of the North which are tier 3, doesn't make sense

Because things aren't being done on that local a level and the rate in the wider areas aren't as high. The case of Leicester has unfortunately shown that doing so causes more problems than it solves with people travelling outside the area.

Because surrounding areas are not as high as Havering, they can’t put Havering into Tier 3 when others around are in Tier 2 as people will just travel to them areas, like they did when Thurrock and Southend didn’t go into the same tier before lockdown.

Also, it's not just the infectioor rate that triggers which tier an area goes into. If nearby nhs capacity is such that the system can cope with current cases with room to spare then tier2 is more likely. Areas with a similar or lower infection rate that are in tier3 might have less flex in their nhs availability?

Slough has gone into tier 3 when everything around it is tier 2, so that argument about localised areas doesn't really hold. The only hospital is Queen's but I suppose they are relatively close to the nightingale hospital so that might help. My colleague lives in Havering and was convinced she would be in tier 3, her daughter's whole school has shut down because of the number of Covid cases, after several incidents over the last few months of several year group bubbles at a time being sent home. It's odd the rate in Havering is 2-3 times higher than neighbouring Thurrock for example which has high population density, lots of manual work that can't be done from home and the Petri dish that is Lakeside shipping centre

Because the tier system is a massive shit show and has more to do with Tory/Labour constituencies than it does with infection rates.

Don’t think anyone can trust the figures to be honest, if the figures were done correctly then I very much doubt Havering would be that much different from its neighbouring Boroughs.

Havering has many people travelling through it everyday from out of the borough which may also be contributing to the high numbers. Over Christmas a vast majority of them will not be coming in so numbers should fall.

A good friend works in many hospitals and Queens is on her list she says it is not as bad as the numbers are reporting....but then someone will come along and say ‘oh my friend is a nurse there and she said it’s terrible!’ 🤷🏼‍♀️ The problem is how the data is collected.
