Does anyone know anyone who works for the MHRA?

I am really excited by the possibility of an approved vaccine but already feel myself getting frustrated that I will have no idea at what stage of the approval pipeline the vaccines are as we wait.

Does anyone have an inside line? Have any of the companies actually provided all the data to the MHRA so they can get to work? What exactly does the MHRA have to do? Will they be working 7 days a week? I am as lazy as the next lady but the idea that thousands more could die because of the need to take weekends off would deive me mad. The Oxford vaccine team definitely didn't take weekends off.

I have been told that the mhra will pretty much pull out all of the stops to get this done ASAP.

@Findahouse21 Great! Who told you that?

The MHRA have already reviewed a large proportion of the files. It isn't all phase 3 data. There is an awful lot of other evidence that is provided in a submission. I read somewhere that it will take about 2 weeks to review the clinical file, although the subgroup analysis is likely to raise some questions.

I think it is simply not ready for approval given their manufacturing errors, limited trial participants with the new dosage etc.

From Bloomberg

“Any time you have confusion in trials it’s not a good thing because it effectively removes any kind of credibility you had,” said Ketan Patel, a fund manager at EdenTree Investment Management. “I think there will be a lot more scrutiny of Astra’s product due to the manufacturing issue.”

I did hear someone from MHRA on radio who said that they will stick with strict protocol which is the same for all vaccine approval.

They will work on weekends etc to do it faster.

Did you hear that on the radio too?

I hope the MHRA do not give into political pressure, but I am also sceptical.

Once PHE used to an amazing body and then then it became political.

There simply doesn’t seem to be sufficient respect for science with top scientific posts (eg within NHS) handed to general managers rather than technical leaders in their field who probably are more ‘difficult’ and not as malleable.

Yep I posted on here afterwards as I was impressed with their dedication

@Ophelia2020 do you think Dolly Parton’s in on it too? Hmm

I'm quite confident that the mhra who receives funding from Bill gates will approve the vaccine that's been funded by bill gates.

I suspect they will all get approved. The question is...WHEN!

I’m going with the impartial and moral authority of the hedge fund manager. There’s no reason for him to bad mouth the not for profit in favour of the vaccine that can only be offered to Eskimos

Bill and Melinda Gates give vast amounts away to good causes that benefit millions of people. You can argue they shouldn't have that much money in the first place, but it's not sensible to claim that they are doing this to enrich themselves (in case anyone was).
