Our rates are 97 per 100000 yet we are in tier 3! This is absolutely ridiculous! Cornell is something like 57 and in tier 1! We've been in a local lockdown, then a tier 3, then a full lockdown and now a tier 3 despite our rates being so low the whole time. It's so frustrating!!!!

It’s ridiculous, I’m so angry! But don’t mention the north south divide here or you’ll get pounced on by southerners 🙈.

midgebabe · 26/11/2020 16:54

Low used to be called below 50. 97;isn't really low

Also, it's just just rages

It's rates over all, rates and direction of change, rates in the over 60s, hospital bed availability

And I suspect that the areas are set based on movement patterns so ( if lots of people live in Lancaster and work in tier 3 area, you will end up in tier 3 more easily

It's the rates in the area where people mingle, not your town, estate, street etc

PushBack · 26/11/2020 16:59

I feel so sorry for you, it's completely unfair Flowers

I live in Preston - much much higher rates than Lancaster but luckily they are rapidly dropping. I was hoping Lancashire would be split out, with East Lancs in one tier, and Fylde/Wyre/West Lancs etc in another.

Even though I was fully expecting Preston to be grouped in with East Lancs and therefore in tier 3 for now, I was confident we could have joined the other areas in a lower tier over the coming weeks.

Now we've all been grouped together I see no hope on the horizon at all. The rates in East Lancs are dreadful and I can't see a time when they will be low enough for us to justify going into tier 2 as a full Lancashire group.

In Preston we've been under local restrictions since early August. I've had a little cry today; it just feels endless.

@LadyCatStark hahaha!!! Oops 🙈

It's incredibly frustrating. I just wanted to be able to take my little boy to the cafe for breakfast or a little cake again :( maybe one day!!!.....

I’m in an area of Lancs that’s had very few cases - but we’re in Tier 3 too. I do work right in a hotspot though.

RandomMess · 26/11/2020 17:49

I'm pissed off too South Lakes and craven that we border into have a much higher rate than us, use our hospital and are Tier 2 AngryAngryAngry

Roll on being part of Morecambe Bay Unitary Authority and leaving Lancashire County Council!!

We are so remote from South Lancashire SadSadSad

We suffer from a run down NHS not enough hospital beds etc.

LadyCatStark · 26/11/2020 17:51

@november90 I know what you mean, we went to Wallings the weekend before we went into tier 3 and I’d so love to go back over the festive period for a Christmassy desert!

There’s going to be nothing left for us to go to by the end of all this 😢. We’ve already lost both the pubs in our village to Covid (we live just in to Wyre). So that’s 2 local businesses, a number of local jobs and the heart of the community all gone.

RandomMess · 26/11/2020 17:56

I also think it's a low percentage of people that live in Lancaster and are commuting to High risk areas, all more likely to be jobs where you can WFH

I'm really upset on the impact on the city centre, what's going to be left???

Sad
Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 27/11/2020 09:54

It worries me what will be left in Lancaster, I know so many people who have lost their jobs.
A couple of the charity shops have gone include great one that provided support to veterans of the armed forces.
I don't hold out much hope for some of the pubs/restaurants and I think pubs on The Quay might not survive.
It's terrible.

Rosehip10 · 27/11/2020 09:59

@RandomMess

"We suffer from a run down NHS not enough hospital beds etc."

Which is one of the factors taken into account with tiers - so you have prob answered your question.....

RandomMess · 27/11/2020 10:10

It is certainly part of it I know.

We should refuse people living over the border access to RLI they can use their own Tier 2 hospitals 😂

Perhaps they should actually open the Manchester Nightingale Hospital???

The main issue is that it's easier to lump Lancashire together, although the fact they have done the same thing in Kent is creating headline grabbing outrage because it's down South...

x2boys · 27/11/2020 10:20

Yep the North has certainly been forgotten about I'm in Bolton and our rates are now just under 300/ 100,000 ( I think) but have fallen from over 500/ 100,000 I can understand why we are still tier three but it's very frustrating.

boys3 · 27/11/2020 12:30

They have done it on upper tier council geographies, although regional for London.

Lancaster has very similar rates to Stratford upon Avon and Tonbridge Wells - all lumped into tier 3 because of some parts of their wider county having have higher rates across the various criteria used.

Given the size of some of these county council areas it is a bit simplistic in some respects.

OverTheRainbow88 · 27/11/2020 12:34

I think they look at other factors rather than how many people per 1000, like hospital capacity etc.

We are south, but in tier 3. I was literally saying to OH last week how shit it must be for those in Lancaster, you’ve barely had any change is initial lockdown and seems like people have forgotten that.

Maskedpotato · 27/11/2020 13:12

I agree. You should have been put in with Cumbria. Same health authority anyway.

manicinsomniac · 27/11/2020 13:43

Agree that it sounds crazy when South Lakes is Tier 2.

I grew up in Kendal. Unless things have changed dramatically, nobody gets treated for much more than a sprained ankle or just generally being 90 years old in Westmorland General. Need any proper care for anything and you've got to go to Lancaster. Lancaster General is essentially the hospital for Lancaster and South Lakes. They should absolutely be in the same tier.

RandomMess · 27/11/2020 13:48

I am being completely petulant over it 🤦🏼‍♀️

LoungeLizardLhama · 27/11/2020 16:46

I know someone who works in primary care in Kendal and they’ve had several second home owners from London and Northumberland come in, knowing they have Covid but up here anyway and needing medical care for other conditions or have had an accident. Her little health centre is t big enough so they’ve had to send these covid infected people to Lancaster hospital instead. She’s furious about it. It’s bad enough that they’ve come up north to their second homes anyway but knowing they’ve got Covid plus other health conditions then needing to get medical treatment just takes the piss. I wonder if they’re adding to Lancaster’s figures too.

november90 · 28/11/2020 05:56

It's just so frustrating. Town really will be a ghost town by the end of all of this. My dad is a property surveyor and his business was halted in the first lockdown which had a HUGE effect on him. Luckily he can work now and all is well but can you actually imagine all of the little cafes and restaurants etc in Morecambe and Lancaster who are closed when other towns who have more cases aren't? SO many won't survive and it's absolutely awful. Such a robotic decision.

Me and my little boy really miss our afternoon dates to wallings a too!
