Tier 2: what about cafes?

Lots of directives about bars and restaurants and a 'substantial meal' and alcohol, but what about cafes? Are they allowed to open for coffee and cake?

I believe so.

CovidPostingName · 26/11/2020 15:29

No, unless takeaway.

anniegun · 26/11/2020 15:32

yes they can remain open (but must have the usual Covid safe policies in place)

LemonSherbetFancy · 26/11/2020 15:37

Covidpostingname. That is the tier 3 rule, not tier 2.

HazeyJaneII · 26/11/2020 15:50

This is from the BBC
Cafes can open
InTier 2venues, only people of the same household can visit and it will be table service only. The'rule of six' (which allows six members ofdifferent households to come together) will apply outdoors.

Tier 2: what about cafes?
PicsInRed · 26/11/2020 16:02

Can I travel from a tier 3 area into tier 2, then sit down in a cafe? Presumably "yes", if I can travel to France and sit down in a cafe there?

If I am permitted to make non essential travel to shop in a non essential clothes shop in tier 3, surely I can make non essential travel out of tier 3 and sit down to eat essential food when I arrive?

Or am I allowed to bring COVID only to our European neighbours, when in a sitting position?

unchienandalusia · 26/11/2020 16:04

@PicsInRed you have to follow the restrictions of the tier you live in. So if you travel from a tier 3 area to a tier 2 area you still operate under tier 3 rules.

Okeydokeykokey · 26/11/2020 16:10

In tier 2, a cafe is the same as a pub that serves food as far as I can tell. You can visit and sit indoors at both with your family, or other members of your support bubble, but you can't sit inside with people from outside of your household/support bubble.
So, if you want to go to the pub with your friends (or a cafe, or a restaurant), you need to sit outside and be no more than 6.

movingonup20 · 26/11/2020 16:14

But will the farm shop care that I'm from tier 3? I'm bloody annoyed because we have a lower rate than London or Manchester (170) but got lumped in with a neighbouring county

whopooedinthepyrex · 26/11/2020 17:07

All bars, cafes and restaurants in France are closed until at least the middle of January so good luck with finding one!

You be careful sitting down, we all know that the Covid would have gone up peoples arses if they sat on a bench in March and April, now it just seems to know what tier you are in

"Keep careful and clench" - one for Boris' next conference.

Feelinglost006 · 26/11/2020 18:17

So if you are sitting outside with 5 other mates in a pub garden with heaters having some Christmas drinks do you need to be eating or is that rule not applicable then

yeOldeTrout · 26/11/2020 18:19

I am looking forward to hot chocolate while out & about. :)

Okeydokeykokey · 27/11/2020 06:55

@Feelinglost006 yes, in tier 2 I think you do need to be eating as well. If you are a household together you can eat inside, if you are friends from different households you eat outside.

The question about travelling from tier 3 to a tier 2 cafe has a legal answer but really it’s just about taking responsibility. You can also drive on the wrong side of the road in an empty street. It’s not a great idea though.
