Doubts about Oxford Vaccine Data

  • NOT AN ANTI VAXXER

This article is concerning that there are several flaws with the Oxford vaccine research and data.

I think media need to look at this, ignoring the vaccine nationalism about this being a ‘British’ vaccine. It’s obviously effective to some extent but it seems that Pfizer and Moderna data is more robust and solid.

@Itwillendintiers

I am slightly concerned that the trial discovered the higher efficacy rate by making a mistake in dosing - that is staggering, the kind of thing that never happens and would in normal times be a serious safety issue for the trial and its participants. How did they make a huge mistake in dosing? I guess we should be grateful if it means we know a more effective administration regimen, but still...
Weren't antibiotics discovered by mistake? I think history is littered with scientific mistakes that turned into useful discoveries. .

Its very likely that the first vaccines in the Uk, both to front line nursing staff and the most vulnerable will be the Pfizer vaccine. The fridges are all ready bought. Waiting for the roll out date.

They just need to get the vaccine, ANY vaccine out now. The prospect of a vaccine is the only thing keeping me going at the moment.

Me too.

But it must work and be safe.

The more worrying thing is that we are vaccinating front line health workers and carers with a vaccine that may well be increasing the likelihood of asymptomatic spread (as the Pfizer trial didn't bother testing asymptomatic participants it may well be that people are simply less likely to be symptomatic rather than able to catch the virus) and given the populations treated by these groups the use of such a vaccine would be likely to lead to more deaths than it saves if the workers are vaccinated before their clients.

I'm not sure we know for definite who's getting what do we? I thought that was just Mumsnet speculation?

The provisional list was published by the government, and has been linked on numerous threads. Here it is again

Sorry - misread your post. Ignore me (too early, not enough Brew ) and no, there is no word on who will receive which.

On a pragmatic note, they'll start with whichever is first approved

Working out the optimal dosage for the Oxford one (which is what I thought these further studies would be seeking to establish) might take a bit of time, meaning it might not roll out until that is established. But a short delay now (when the mass campaign wasn't really expected to lift off until early next year) isn't going to change much.

As time goes by it looks increasingly that I'm not alone in speculating that this is the US and Wall Street making a concerted effort for months to undermine the cheap Oxford Vaccine for financial reasons. See The Times today.
