Yes

Lifeisshortandbitterswet · 26/11/2020 10:41

We've been told it's mandatory to have it, I work in end of life care. I do understand the reasoning as to why, although I'm still undecided as to whether I'd personally have it, or leave and find employment where its not needed. I'd be really interested to hear other carers views on it. I work in a private home, not NHS

hashbrownsandwich · 26/11/2020 10:44

@Lifeisshortandbitterswet does your company name begin with a B?

Rainyrain · 26/11/2020 11:16

We’ve also been told it might be mandatory but that hasn’t been confirmed yet. I’ll have it either way. I hope the uptake is huge because I see it as the only way out of the mess we’re in.
A couple of people have said they definitely won’t have it because they can’t be sure of the long term risks but as far as I can tell we don’t know the long term risks of COVID either so I’m happy to take my chances.

WankPuffins · 26/11/2020 11:35

No.

And I won't be returning to work after maternity leave now.

Lifeisshortandbitterswet · 26/11/2020 12:11

@hashbrownsandwich yes it does.

hashbrownsandwich · 26/11/2020 12:17

@Lifeisshortandbitterswet I suspect we work for the same company.

shesellsseashells99 · 26/11/2020 13:38

The care home where I work has also hinted that it will be mandatory.

pinkkoala · 27/11/2020 04:40

I am care assistant for private care home company, also beginning with B, we have been told its not mandatory but there will be questions asked as to why we won't get the vaccine and its more favourable for us to have, so not sure that gives us much choice.

Surely, if you didn't want it, then "I don't want it" should be a good enough reason.

If it's the same company beginning with a B that I worked for, they didn't give a monkeys if staff had D&V bugs as long as they came into work, so it's a bit rich coming from them.

Lifeisshortandbitterswet · 27/11/2020 09:47

@WankPuffins that's so true!
The only reason I stay working for them is the home I'm in is very small, brilliant colleagues all round an it has a real home and family feel to it, an we get to know the residents and their families really well. I've been there 22 years.

But I'm against forced vaccines to be honest, it's a bit dystopian.
We can't force a resident at work to take medication, surely we have the same rights as care workers...

You should have, but I wonder if they can stipulate it as a requirement for employment for new staff? My friend wasn't able to start on a placement as a nursing student without certain vaccinations. But after you have been employed, I don't know if they could legally sack someone for refusing a vaccine.

WankPuffins · 27/11/2020 11:16

@AnotherNameForChristmas they would be on very shaky ground, surely?

However, after years of working in health and social care and being fucked over by employers and have them flout employment laws, nothing would surprise me.

Choirbells · 27/11/2020 11:28

I am also a care worker, I honestly dont know my decision on this vaccine, I am in 2 minds.
But to feel like we are forced into this because of our jobs seems totally unfair.

I think technically it would be discrimination unless it's mandatory as a legislation from the government.
