Masks and Perspex

For this Christmas bubble thing should we be wearing masks when not eating? Also would it be beneficial to put Perspex between places at the table?

You need to be wearing Hazmat suits at all times Grin

SquirtleSquad · 25/11/2020 16:08

Maybe you could just invest in a giant condom and sit in that?

PragmaticWench · 25/11/2020 16:10

Just don't spit in each others faces, avoid that party game and you'll be grand!

OpheliasCrayon · 25/11/2020 17:47

This has to be a joke.. please please make this a joke. Please don't let it be the case that someone has genuinely suggested this ... please

Funkypolar · 25/11/2020 19:06

You should be wearing a mask between bites of food.

Bushola · 25/11/2020 20:03

I don’t see why this has been seen as a silly question. What’s good (and needed) in cafes and restaurants is surely good for home?

So...you're thinking about buying perspex to put between your family bubble members when you eat Christmas dinner? Like on university challenge.

Wow.

BigRedBoat · 25/11/2020 20:19

Are they just going to come in straight to the table/Perspex box and then leave? Won't they be sitting on the sofa/using the loo/helping wash dishes etc?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/11/2020 20:19

Please tell me this is a joke...

wowfudge · 25/11/2020 20:23

You could get everyone their own small plastic greenhouse, you know the sort where you put the clear plastic over a frame? Big enough to get a chair inside, but total protection.

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/11/2020 20:41

Ho ho fucking ho.

Just stay at home in pyjamas eating mince pies and drinking Baileys.

starfish4 · 25/11/2020 20:58

Best to stay at home with your own household.

Mind you would point out no talking, coughing, sneezing, sighs between eating and putting in mask. Also, you haven't thought about disinfectant wipes and sanitzier.

PurpleDaisies · 25/11/2020 21:02

There are things to minimise risks. Ventilation, distancing, minimising the time you’re together, spending as much time outdoors as possible, not sharing cutlery etc...

People need to decide what’s right to minimise the risks for their own families this year. We are just staying at home.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/11/2020 21:06

Masks and perspex sound even worse than Zoom, and that's saying something.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/11/2020 21:07

You could lovingly get some Christmas masks and craft a food hole for the mouth so there's no tedious and germy applying and removing the mask between bites of food...

Or just provide a nose bag?

The biggest risk is shared air. Risks seem to be

close + singing / shouting + indoors

distant + quiet + window open

more distant + masked + outdoors

Adding perspex is useful for a v short interaction (cashier in supermarket) but if you spend 2 hours with family then the shared air will still get around the edges of your perspex screen.

Masks help but not if you are eating / drinking. And if you have masks off for 2 hours of Christmas lunch, it might not make much difference to put them on for 1 hour afterwards.

I did hear someone on the radio earlier today suggest it might be a good thing to turn up at Xmas with your own food and cutlery plates etc, sit in a well ventilated (read: freezing) room, with masks on when not eating. Merry bloody Xmas! What a joyless experience. This is why we're staying as a family of four and not bothering seeing anyone this year. There's always next year.
