Neighbour and swimming pool

Coronapool · 25/11/2020 08:15

I live next door but one to an old ish (70s) couple who I'm quite friendly with. They're very active and not shielding. And as far as I know are being careful. We've had a few end of drive chats about things throughout lockdown and I've seen the husband wiping their shopping down, wife going out and about dressed up etc but she has always got a mask on her (she makes them and showed me and offered me one).

They have a small swimming pool and i know the wife uses it each morning as I can hear her asking her husband to come and help her take the cover off it,but recently Ive seen two younger women (I think one is their granddaughter or another family member) coming to use it, all through lockdown.

We're in tier two, pubs shut, some shops, no mixing of households at the moment.

Is this allowed? They dont appear to be using it at the same time as my neighbours do as I know from various chats over the years that they only use their pool of a morning, but I am a bit worried for the couple. I'm not sure if it is illegal? Large garden and the younger women don't seem to go in the house at all.

But also, if the couple use the pool, are they risking catching covid? I dont know what this young woman does (she appears to be mid or late twenties so is perhaps working or mixing and has someone else with her,maybe from same household)?

I'm not sure if neighbours think it is safe when it might not be? I suppose chlorine kills covid but the sides of the pool and the area surrounding it?
I'm a bit anxious for people and not trying to interfere but we get along well and if they're putting themselves at risk and perhaps not knowing they are,I'd tell them.

Probably a lot safer than going running /cycling in the park behind 100s of other joggers.

Nicknacky · 25/11/2020 09:34

Posts on here are becoming ridiculous. Seriously you “dread” your neighbours becoming unwell?

I like my neighbour as much as the next person but I certainly don’t “dread” anything about their health. It’s entirely up to them what “risks” they want to take.

TheOrigRights · 25/11/2020 09:46

I know the rules for lockdown allow you to do unlimited exercise outside with one other person outside your household, and it can be a different person every time. I don't know whether they would include a pool on private property; I don't see why not.

Tier2 should allow at least that level of 'contact' ie when we were in Tier2 our pools were still open.

I think it's fine and they're lucky to have their own pool.

TheOrigRights · 25/11/2020 09:47

@megletthesecond

I think outdoor pools are almost zero risk. You won't catch me in a restaurant or gym until next summer, but if we had an open air pool I'd be there in a shot.
Get thee down to the sea with your wetsuit!
CherryPavlova · 25/11/2020 13:44

Or even down to the sea without a wetsuit 😁

DipSwimSwoosh · 25/11/2020 14:00

Your neighbours can manage their own risk. Swimming is fine.

SunbathingDragon · 25/11/2020 14:09

I imagine they are more at risk from their grocery delivery than sharing an outdoor chlorinated pool (which is so negligible to be virtually non existent). It’s quite possible their daughter is a single parent and they are in a perfectly legitimate bubble with her and their granddaughter.

Would you have the same issue if your neighbour and daughter had neighbouring houses that led down to the beach and they were swimming in the (not chlorinated and shared with many other people) ocean? Their pool is safer and exercise is good, especially for mental health.

megletthesecond · 25/11/2020 20:39

@theorigrights and @cherrypavlova
We're not close to the sea sadly. I'm this close to starting a one woman campaign for a year round lido in our large town. London has loads of them don't they.

Bushola · 25/11/2020 20:52

What surprises me more is people using an outdoor pool at a chilly time of year. 🥶🥶

userxx · 25/11/2020 20:58

🙈🙈🙈 what the fuck has happened to people.

Nicknacky · 25/11/2020 21:01

userxx We will be looking back to these threads in years to come thinking “what the fuck”?!

Nicknacky · 25/11/2020 21:02

Although I do that now already!

userxx · 25/11/2020 21:44

@Nicknacky there's no words to describe how disappointed I feel about people these days. How did it get to this.

megletthesecond · 25/11/2020 21:57

I wonder how people weren't nosy pre-pandemic tbh, do you walk around with blinkers on? I've always wondered what my neighbours are up to. Life's too short not to be nosy and judge some of them.

MzHz · 25/11/2020 22:35

@Coronapool

steppen yes I'm much less bothered about them sticking to rules and more concerned that they're maybe not being concerned enough for their own health. If it isnt a risk to them (which it seems not to be) of course I'll take no action at all.

The posts telling me to mind my own arent helpful. I just dread to think of either of them getting ill.

It seems this isnt likely though. Thanks to those who have clarified it for me. :)

Like fuck you are! Your curtain twitching like the rest of the sorry no life individual’s

They are making their own decisions based on their own levels of risk and as there is chlorine in the pool, they are swimming in a bleach solution

Literally the Safest activity out there.

This dear people is why if you call the police, they can’t come out to you because people like this op is on high alert

SuperCaliFragalistic · 26/11/2020 05:32

Firstly, you're not in a tier 2 area, we are in a national lockdown and have been for 3 weeks

Secondly, MYOB.

Monty27 · 26/11/2020 05:34

Blimey OP why is this bothering you?
If it is have you called the police?

iamusuallybeingunreasonable · 26/11/2020 05:52

Mine your own beeswax, this country is turning into war time stasi-land.

Pool as have chemicals in them, and not just chlorine, to kills the germs!

Sunflowergirl1 · 26/11/2020 06:03

@userxx

there's no words to describe how disappointed I feel about people these days. How did it get to this.

Yep agree...there will be a national epidemic of mental illness when some people can't get their fix of interfering and reporting others for what they think are breaches....remember early on in this when even the police didn't understand what was law v guidance

Issitu · 26/11/2020 06:34

@SuperCaliFragalistic

Firstly, you're not in a tier 2 area, we are in a national lockdown and have been for 3 weeks

Secondly, MYOB.

Not throughout the whole UK, Scotland has tiers.
Calmandmeasured1 · 26/11/2020 06:41

I don't know why you have mentioned you are in tier 2. Nobody in England is in a tier at the moment atre they? Do you mean you were in tier 2 until we went into the 2nd lockdown in November 5th?

What is the connection with your question?

MRC20 · 26/11/2020 06:46

Mind your own business and leave them alone FFS. So they're letting family members exercise in their pool, that affects you how? Get a hobby.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 26/11/2020 06:50

You're seriously over invested in what other people are doing OP. Your concern/fears whatever you want to call them are over the top. You sound like you've lost touch with reality and are living in constant fear. Whether or not you think it is helpful I would also suggest minding your own business. It's low risk and nothing to do with you.

Coronapool · 26/11/2020 17:21

MzHz

I'd have never called the police no matter what.. And I'm not lying about my reasoning thank you.

It isnt cold water swimming, it is heated.

Thank you to those who have reassured. :)
