How long are they likely to stay open after the 5 day free for all?

Staffing at my school has got so bad were not allowed time off to self isolate anymore. Unless we personally have a positive test, its work as usual.

Somebody needs to whistle blow on this. It’s dangerous and needs calling out.

I can imagine schools will be ‘open’ in name as far as the government are concerned and that will be fine. In reality it will be even worse than it is now. Schools will be closing to even more pupils due to cases and isolating.
We can’t have it both ways and mixing children with their grandparents is just asking for disaster which will play out in schools and the nhs in January.

@pontypridd

I don’t expect there to be an official closure either. But schools will be negatively affected by this Christmas craziness.

It will affect exams etc The government clearly just don’t give a shit.

Will they definitely though? Another poster the other day pointed out that it is still likely to break transmission to a degree given that schools will be shut at Christmas. What is worse, being in a school bubble of 30-150+, or spending a couple of days with a few members of the extended family? Teachers here have been very clear all along that there is no mitigation at all in schools, so actually small mixing at home should be 'safer'?

I don't know the answers of course but I think it is a reasonable point in terms of what to expect in January.

Obviously it would have been better to use the break as an opportunity to actually reduce transmission and 2 weeks off could have done that, but again only for so long.

I expect the thinking is that a break from the restrictions at Christmas might help 'reset' everyone before knuckling down into another few tough months?
