Can someone explain Xmas bubbles? I'm feeling a bit thick

If I've already formed a bubble as I am a single adult household, are the Xmas bubbles an extra 3 households or is my original bubble automatically one of the 3? Does is make a difference if I don't see the original bubble until after the 5 days have finished? My head hurts!

From BBC news:
“However, the rules about what counts as a household will depend on where you are. In England if you have formed a support bubble with another household, that counts as one household, so you can join with two other households in a Christmas bubble.”

Whoever you have bubbles with is your household. Combined you are household one and you can see household two and household three. You can all only see each other and doesn't matter which day.

After 5 days depends on your tier system.

Thanks Sarg. So if my original bubble is seeing 2 other households (she'll be away with at her DPs house and her sister and family will be visiting there as well) does that mean I can't see anyone?

Your current bubble = one household.

You then come to an agreement with up to 2 other households for the 5 day Xmas period.

During that time your bubble and the other 2 can socialise together indoors. None of you can form bubbles with any other households as it's a 'closed bubble'.

Anyone else getting sick of the word bubble?

@angryface Normal households can also form separate Christmas bubbles so would imagine same applies for regular support bubbles.

@FatGirlShrinking Yes I think the word bubble started to lose all meaning around about July time!

MrsSchrute · 24/11/2020 20:44

You and another household have formed a social bubble.
During the Christmas period you have a choice. You can either function as one household and form a bubble with up to two others.
Or you can split for the duration of Christmas and each join separate bubbles.

This isn’t totally clear yet. I’d wait a day or two and see what comes out before making any firm plans. Nicola sturgeon in particular is said to be unhappy the potential for six households (three support bubbles) to potentially be able to meet.

MrsSchrute · 24/11/2020 20:46

It is clear if you're in England. MrsFrog has posted a link to the full guidance.

I’ve invented that you’re in Scotland op. I’m not sure how that happened!
