Tier 3 residents will just go to pubs and restaurants in tier 1 and 2 surely?

If there is no one policing it, surely that will happen if a tier 2 is a few miles away from a tier 3 area. It’s inevitable.

Well, they were before so I imagine they will again.

Lurkingforawhile · 24/11/2020 08:59

I guess it depends if the pubs check? If they use the app to check in, or are taking name and number but no address, nothing to stop them. Was there anything to prevent it before?

LemonTT · 24/11/2020 09:00

Some might and some might not.

Not what happened in my friendship group.

SpongeCake23 · 24/11/2020 09:01

I’ve already seen people saying it on Facebook this morning...I remember them taking name and number, but not address.

That's what lots did from Liverpool. People booked weekends away in Manchester and popped to Southport/Warrington etc for a drink. Students were allowing their flats (some left empty) to be used as party venues.

Tbh I don't want to see enforcement to the extent that will be needed.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 24/11/2020 09:02

Yep. I'm in Nottingham which was tier 3, people just went to Derby instead. No checks, my work colleague did it.

mocktail · 24/11/2020 09:03

Some people will, most won't. It won't be enough to undermine the whole system.

HelloMissus · 24/11/2020 09:05

There were some dudes in Ireland drinking in the airport cos that was the only bar open Grin

MrsGradyOldLady · 24/11/2020 09:11

I think it will depend on how far away your nearest Tier 2 pub is. For a lot of us it's going to be too far to go in a taxi for a pretty soulless evening out with no music and no talking shite with complete strangers in the smoking area.

psychomath · 24/11/2020 09:35

You can still only go with your own household in Tier 2 though, can't you? So maybe some people on the borders of Tier 3 will (in which case who cares really, the council boundaries are arbitrary cutoffs anyway in terms of virus prevalence), but I can't see many people driving to another city or county just to have a meal out with people they already live with.

SquishySquirmy · 24/11/2020 09:38

Some will.
It's a bit of a dick move, in my opinion.
But just because some people break a rule, it does not mean the rule is completely pointless.
Many wont, either because it's too much effort to travel to a tier 2 area (as pps say) or because they think it is wrong.

I live right on the border of 2 LAs. At one point there were very different rules for the 2 areas. So the restaurants a couple of miles away in one direction were open, whilst the ones in the other direction were shut! We were just inside the wrong area. We still didn't "cross the border" even though it felt pretty arbitrary, because I suppose the line has to be drawn somewhere. I am sure that some others in our area did, but that doesn't mean that everyone does it nor does it make it OK.

The tier system was in place for at least a month before lockdown - why ask this question now? I’m in W Yorkshire & we’ve had higher restrictions such as not seeing people indoors since July - it’s done nothing, we are now 5th worst in the country 🤦🏼‍♀️ So many people just went to Leeds when they banned meeting outside the household in pubs/restaurants. And sure enough, Leeds’ cases swiftly shot up as well.

There is no way to police it. Some people will follow the rules & some won’t. Some like me stick to the majority but make a calculated risk on things like not being 2m apart when having a walk with a friend. We don’t hug or get too close but we walk normally.. you make a choice. I certainly wouldn’t travel to another area for the sake of popping for dinner. I’ll just get takeout & support my poor local restaurants!
