Furloughed but ineligible for pay HELP!!!

So basically I started my new job on the 30th of October at a restaurant, before lockdown 2 was even announced. Between then and lockdown 2 I worked 18.5 hours.

On Friday evening I got an email from the person who is in charge of our pay to let me know that although I have obviously been furloughed as my workplace has closed, I am ineligible for the Job Retention Scheme because even though I started on the 30th it basically requires you to have been paid on or before the 30thSad

My works ‘month’ runs from the 21st to the 20th and then pay day is on the 1st so in order to be eligible I would have had to have started working before September the 20th to have been paid on the 1st of October.

I don’t know what to do, I can’t be the only person in this situation but when I try and google it nothing comes up. I have applied for universal credit but I am employed so surely I won’t get itConfused I just put ‘other’ when it asked whether I was employed although it said to put ‘employed’ if you are being furloughed, well I am being furloughed but not paid for it so I don’t know where that leaves me.

It’s not like I could have even found work elsewhere during lockdown 2 as it’s so short I will be needed back at work in a couple of weeks.

@MoonPomme but on the day my work closed for lockdown 2 I had no idea whether I would be eligible for furlough pay or not! I looked it up and it says you can claim for a month before you started your claim if you can give reason for not claim earlier so I should be able to say I only found out I wasn’t eligible for the JRS the day before I claimed

Hi op I have no personal knowledge but just wanted to say how crap this is! You worked so hard to get a job and am sure you wish you hadn't bothered as you are now worse off for it. Good luck, I truly hope you get this sorted Flowers

@PrivateD00r Thank you so much that’s exactly how I feelFlowers I know am I so lucky to even have a job and it took me so long to get as you can imagine the hospitality industry is a really tough place to find work at the moment. I know there are people who have had it so much worse but it is so tough feeling like you’ve just slipped through the cracks and there’s no guidance or help to be found!Flowers

Just an update in case anyone wondered/might see this if they’re in the same situation: Have a phone appointment with UC on Monday so will ask them to help me change my application so it shows I’m employed and whatnot. Hopefully I will have a clearer idea of what will happen after that. Get to go back to work next week so that’s positive although it is going to be really tough to make ends meet between now and the new year
