Is this the beginning of the end?

I almost feel some excitement today at the thought of life going back to normal.

I just daren’t get too excited but could this really be the beginning of the end?
Is normal life within reaching distance?

How is everyone else feeling?

Yeah...I really like your thinking...but you haven’t added in Brexit🤣🤣...just as we’re getting to the end of one massive f-up the other nearly slots in to take its place, yay.

TicTacTwo · 23/11/2020 23:33

@Sobeyondthehills

I think if Johnson hadn't said March that is what I would be aiming for, now he has said it I am thinking more July, given his record
^^ yes I'm hoping that the army and the NHS are rolling out the vaccine rather than Serco, Matt Hancock and Dido Harding
Blimeyoreilly2020 · 23/11/2020 23:34

*neatly not nearly!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 23/11/2020 23:36

I know it won’t be popular to say, but I think Christmas is being relaxed too much, and I think that will cause another spike. I hope once that passes then things will move forward, and that we’re at least back to where we were this summer by next summer.

I’m in Scotland and it’s been forever since we were allowed to mix in homes. I really, really want to sit at my kitchen table, and drink a cup of coffee, or a glass of wine, with a friend.

andfurtively · 23/11/2020 23:36

Friends of mine ( nurses) in London, have appointments made for Covid vaccine mid December.
This is happening folks. Despite the doom and gloom on this thread, we are already on the right path, and we will start to see a significant improvement in our lives early next year. Don't give up

Mrsmadevans · 23/11/2020 23:36

I think it is the start of back to normality, thank God! I must be honest though and say l really like wearing a mask, l know l must be nuts but it feels good to be incognito . I will miss it when we are back to normal Grin

LadyFelsham · 23/11/2020 23:37

There is bound to be a big spike in cases after Christmas mixing-January/February but then an end in sight as the vaccine becomes available.

LadyFelsham · 23/11/2020 23:39

I agree with another poster upthread-the scientists have been heroic in their efforts.

I think that by Spring things will be much better, not totally back to normal but much better. At the moment, I feel like we are driving along a dark tunnel with only the headlights to show us a short way ahead. We will make progress little by little until we come out of the tunnel and into daylight. There will be sun and birdsong and rabbits bounding about and we will meet up with all our friends and loved ones. There will be an almighty party with cake and champagne.

Dandylioness1 · 23/11/2020 23:44

With no masks or distancing 😉

It is such positive news all round. Will take a while to get us all jabbed, but at least we know we will get it at some point.

Being a realist, the logistics of delivering 40 or 50 million double doses will be collosal, (kids not getting it), but it will be done in time. Be patient.

pinkearedcow · 23/11/2020 23:49

We can dance around a bonfire of the masks (as long as it doesn't frighten the birds and the rabbits, I definitely want the birds and the rabbits there).

This thread is a prime example of why the most corrupt government in living memory gets away with it every time: people would rather delude themselves about what's really happening and what's to come than face the reality and demand answers and change. But hey, as long as everything's permanently just about to go back to "normal", why question anything at all? Not even a historically disastrous Brexit from January 1st seems to be registering on the majority's radar. Do you honestly think the virus situation (and its highly unlikely smooth resolution, given the shambles that has been made of things so far) is the only real problem we've got?!

I give up Confused

Deelish75 · 24/11/2020 00:40

Yes I think this is the beginning of the end.
I think Jan and Feb will be bumpy but by March we’ll start to see improvements.
The spring and summer we’ll start seeing our freedoms coming back to us, and hoping that our DC have a few weeks of normality in school before they break up for the summer.
Hoping to also see concerts/festivals and big sporting events happening by late summer - The Olympics and The Euros have been rescheduled for next year, keeping fingers crossed that they can go ahead as normally as possible.

Forgetmenot157 · 24/11/2020 00:41

Definitely the beggining of the end.... All of our restrictions are to stop the NHS being overwhelmed... As soon as elderly and vulnerable are vaccinated we should start to see restrictions lifted, as although yes some young and healthy get seriously ill and die it is no way near enough to overwhelm the NHS or have restrictions etc.

Then the rest of the population can get vaccinated as and when possible... I really think by april or may things will be so much brighter for us all.

I love the doom mongers that claim they are just realists.... As if they have lived through many a pandemic and know exactly what will happen haha.

OP might not be in England or even the UK.

She's not specified what she's looking forward to but I bet it's stuff that's not dependent on Brexshit like hugging someone without worrying that you could make them sick or inviting them round yo her house without considering the legality. Imagine being able to high five or use a changing room in a shop?

Obviously the problems the UK faced pre CV are still there are we have a whole lot of new ones to sort but there is no harm in fantasizing about some simple pleasures returning next year.

TicTacTwo · 24/11/2020 01:24

And this is the Coronavirus forum. It's perfectly acceptable to focus on that topic.

I am in the UK and I haven’t forgotten about Brexit or any other political issues, but I absolutely won’t let this over shadow the simple things that we could all start to enjoy again.

Exactly has stated here, seeing family without the worry of making them ill, hugging and socialising.

Yes! I'm optimistic.

I think we will have further lockdowns in January and February but if people are being vaccinated by then it could be the final lockdown. I'm hopeful for a better spring and an almost normal summer!

User158340 · 24/11/2020 08:33

Jan-Feb will be worse than now after the December free-for-all.

The vaccine roll out will see more normality phased in by Easter.

This seems pretty much the case IMO.

Yeah the “mark my words, there will never be a vaccine” brigade have gone quiet.
notevenat20 · 24/11/2020 08:42

Yes. There will undoubtedly be twists and turns before the very end of this pandemic but we are now in the last chapter. Hooray for that!
