Tell them to be sensible and give it a miss this year

I could just imagine my mums response to that 🤣

My 90 year old mother will go to the shops. Her daily shopping trips - and the chats she has with friendly shop staff - have kept her going since March. She gave it up for a couple of weeks in April - online deliveries arranged by me - but found her walking ability started to decline very rapidly. So she went out shopping again. I am in no doubt that it is her lifetime habit of shopping by foot (never by car) every day that means she is still able to walk, whereas so many of her friends are basically immobile nowadays. If she’d given it up over the last few months she’d probably be immobile too- at her age it really is use it or lose it. As it is, she’s fine, healthy & cheerful and thinking about Xmas presents and mince pies etc.

Matt Hancock would no doubt like to see her imprisoned in her home, lonely & frightened, but she’s voting with her feet.

Mine are doing a bit online and having a bit done for them.

No one in the family would let them risk their health shopping themselves, and luckily they're still "alll there" so they don't want to.

DF asked me to order a few things from Amazon for him, which I’ve done. He said this year he’s mostly going to give money and people can choose what to spend it on.

Presume my octogenarian parents (DM at least) will be doing it via Amazon. Ma has learned to Zoom this year, plays bridge online in international competitions and gets the groceries delivered.

I presume she can order presents. She's got Amazon prime.
