I've been given 3 different pieces of advice. Two from NHS, one from employer (local government)... Which is right please because its seriously pissing me off!!

Timeline:

Start symptoms on the morning of the 14/11.

Tested on 17/11.

Positive result received 19/11.

NHS results email: "You must, by law, self-isolate for 10 days from your symptoms starting. If you’ve not had symptoms, self-isolate for 10 days from your test. You may return to work on day 11 if you’ve not had a high temperature for 48 hours and are well."

My understanding = As I have had symptoms so long as no temperature for 48hrs and am well I can go back to work on 25/11.

NHS T&T: Entered my test result "You must isolate until the 28/11 @ 23.59"

Work: "You must isolate for 10 days from the date you RECEIVED you positive result, so as the 10th day is a Sunday you can come back to work on 30/11"

Who is right??? I'm not a rocket scientist by any stretch of the imagination, but seriously??!!

Nobody knows!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 22/11/2020 13:29

10 days from when symptoms started?

Augustbreeze · 22/11/2020 13:30

Work definitely wrong. T&T app just going on what it knows, although did you enter yr initial symptoms on the right date?

The first date is right, as you thought.

But yes, no wonder people are confused!!

conkersarebonkers · 22/11/2020 13:34

10 days from the start of symptoms is correct for a positive case.

T&T as in the app on your phone, rather than the human beings that contact you by phone? If it's the app, and you only enter the date of your test result, then that's the only date it can calculate from (it has no way of knowing when your symptoms started), so it's given you a date 10 days from your test result.

10 days from when symptoms started.

However if work are saying don't come back until 30th and will pay you full pay I wouldn't argue with them WinkGrin

@conkersarebonkers

Yes the app. Which is a pile of poo in itself as it didn't even send my DH an alert despite Bluetooth and contact tracing on constantly. Haven't heard a dickie bird from the human beings!

@itsgettingweird

As a general rule I would agree, but it's month before Christmas and if I'm off "sick" I can't do overtime as can't WFH. The extra week can mean £300 less next month 😔

The work one makes no sense at all. Processing/reporting to you times for tests varies. If your test result had been delayed 2 more days, what difference could that possibly make to when you were contagious? But your work is perhaps missing the information on test and symptom date.

T&T doesn't know when your symptoms started (I assume), so goes by test date.

So it is all about missing information.

Presumably the email has all of the information available. I'd go with that.

Send work the NHS email.
