What will the new tiers look like?

So as usual the government have leaked their plans to the Sunday newspapers. It looks like lockdown will end on 2nd December but a new, stricter three tier system will be put in place.

I think my area will be in tier 3 and I'm wondering what additional restrictions will be in place I really hope that organised outdoor sports and the rule of 6 for outdoor meet ups are allowed. I also hope our local shops are given the chance to open in December.

Here's an article explaining the previous tier 3 restrictions. Up to 6 people could meet in public spaces like parks, the countryside etc.
@SavoyCabbage, in tier two you can't go into people's houses but you can meet as a group of six outside. Meeting outside is banned in tier three areas. Only tier one had an allowance for going in peoples houses.

In fact, people in tier three were advantaged by the current lockdown in this respect... they went from not being able to meet anyone outside to being able to meet one other person. Hopefully that rule will stay for tier three.
And yes actually made it better for us as I can go for a walk with my sister where tier 3 you couldn't meet anyone at all

SavoyCabbage · 22/11/2020 09:02

Agh! It's so confusing!

Sorry for spreading misinformation.Blush

crossstitchingnana · 22/11/2020 09:02

What is the point of going back to the tiers we had before? SAGE say they weren't enough and we're in a lockdown as a result. What I have read today hints the new tiers will be stricter, apart from moving the curfew to 11(madness in my view). I welcome the stricter idea. What's the point of measures if basically everything is still open?🤪

mysteryfairy · 22/11/2020 09:02

Tier 3 you could meet in a public outdoor space - beach, forest, park etc.

You couldn’t meet in a pub garden or private garden.

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2020 09:03

I think people are confusing tier 3 with the first lockdown.

GrumpySausage · 22/11/2020 09:05

You were always able to meet up outside in tier 3 in public spaces etc, bit not private gardens. In tier 2 you were allowed to meet in private gardens.

Let's hope this remains in the new stricter tiers.

I think a lot of the changes will be to tier 1, and tier 3 likely to remain the same. There is evidence tier 3 was working in the North West before New lockdown came in to force.

Kez0777 · 22/11/2020 09:05

Sorry yes was just in private gardens you couldn't meet, but you could meet in a park. I'm sure it was six people if 2 households though?
I hope the new information is really clear as it gets so confusing!
I know we will be going into the strictest lockdown so won't be much different than now.

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2020 09:06

U’m sure it was six people if 2 households though

No. Just six people.

GrumpySausage · 22/11/2020 09:07

Because its a balancing act. He could close everything and stop the virus in its tracks but that'd be financial suicide for the country.

Temporarything · 22/11/2020 09:08

We were in Tier 3. Am hoping post lockdown, we move back to that. They really need to open up,hospitality or the sector will die.

I suspect the enhanced new tiers will be for those in 1 and 2. I can’t see how tier 3 could be much stricter without it being what we’re in now.

Mimishimi · 22/11/2020 09:08

T4 park program. Look into it

itsgettingweird · 22/11/2020 09:15

@Lurkingforawhile

We were in tier one before and our levels have gone up but are now the lowest locally. I'm really hoping that gyms, swimming pools, and outdoor sports open up. I know they were open in tier three before so I am hopeful even if we end up as tier two now. Also non essential shops as it seems so arbitrary on the high street and I feel sorry for those who can't open when you can still buy almost everything from the bigger chains like Tesco and M&S.
I agree about leisure centres.

Tracing showed that the rate of infection in pools and gyms was 7/100,000 of the population with 5 million visits.

But then again this government don't seem to use data to drive their decisions.

SomelikeitHoth · 22/11/2020 10:06

We were tier 3 before which was ok because our son's indoor activity was open and cafes were open

Lurkingforawhile · 22/11/2020 10:11

I can’t see that they’ll change being able to meet up with one person outside. The risk is low, and it’s made a huge difference from lockdown 1. Especially for single people inc those with young children. I guess the options are that the top tier (which maybe 4?) is the same as now, tier three is the same as before, and tier two is the same but with those previously in tier one now in tier two so no indoor meet ups. There must be some places with low enough risk to be tier one (indoor meet ups) as before but none I can think of ATM.

Yes, little point returning to something that wasn’t working.

I hope the tiers are stricter than before and some extra measures for compliance added.

Lurkingforawhile · 22/11/2020 10:13

@itsgettingweird I think the problem is they didn’t do track and trace properly so can’t have had good enough data about where people caught it and passed it on. I agree about swimming; one of the more inclusive forms of exercise so please let them open the pools!

Lurkingforawhile · 22/11/2020 10:16

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss agree re compliance. What really annoys me is that the places which massively weren’t complying (huge gatherings rather than say 7 people) who were clearly increasing the risk loads and seemed to be doing it more than once, which is awful. I heard about a gym, a wedding, and a pub who just ignored the rules completely. Surely people locally knew about those.
