Nursery closing

Ronnie1234 · 22/11/2020 07:43

My daughters nursery is closing for 2 weeks for isolation of staff & most likely children
Why 2 weeks isolation? Surely symptoms will show within 7 days?

Because 2 weeks is government guidelines as it has always been.

PastelPompoms · 22/11/2020 08:00

I know people who have come out with Symptoms on day 13 when they thought they were in the clear.

nannynick · 22/11/2020 08:11

Incubation period. Like other viruses, infection occurs but symptoms do not show for a period of time. That period varies due to how individuals immune systems cope with the infection. The virus battles with the immune system and when the virus is well established then symptoms show.

You may have heard about viral load, the more of the virus that gets to infect cells, the harder the immune system has to work, the quicker the virus multiplies overwhelming the immune system.
So far research seems to indicate a 5-6 day average for symptoms to show, thus why Government was looking at lowering 14 days to 10 days. However some people will show symptoms almost immediately, others will not show for 10, 12, 14+ days.

2 weeks is a best guess currently for how long it takes most people to show symptoms following being infected.

Heyahun · 22/11/2020 08:12

It’s literally the official rules from the government

sherrystrull · 22/11/2020 08:14

They're following official guidance. Close contacts need to isolate for 14 days from the onset of symptoms.

Twistered · 22/11/2020 08:15

Official government rules.
Symptoms can take 14 days to show

LadyPenelope68 · 22/11/2020 08:16

What planet are you on? ALL the guidance, ALL the way through this pandemic has been that you isolate for 14 days if you’ve been in contact! That’s who the nursery is closed for that length of time.

everybodysang · 22/11/2020 08:18

THIS is why we are still in trouble. How can you not know this? If you can get it together to read Mumsnet, you can read some news sources.

lunar1 · 22/11/2020 08:20

I have absolutely no idea how people don't understand that you can develop Covid symptoms up to 14 days after exposure. I guess it explains the mess we are in.

2anddone · 22/11/2020 08:22

Are you asking because you genuinely don't know it because you are pissed that you have to actually look after your own child Hmm
If you realised what a childcare setting goes through when it has to close because if this bloody virus you would realise that they are following government guidelines and will open as soon as they can...now go turn on CBeebies and stop mumbling under your breath about how inconvenient it is!

Lifeispassingby · 22/11/2020 08:22

The isolation period is 14days not 7 days

RonaRossi · 22/11/2020 08:24

Have you been living under a rock since March op or are you joking?

ConnellWaldron · 22/11/2020 08:41

Why are you asking the question? Why would you expect them to not follow medical advice? Surely you want your kid's nursery to be in the habit of following medical advice and guidelines...

Ronnie1234 · 22/11/2020 09:27

I was only asking a question with the rules changing all the time. PHW were going to change to 10 days
Track & trace have not been in contact yet
I'm happy to look after my child at home
Just started a new job 3 weeks ago working from home
She's a great little girl it will be fine!
What I didn't expect was a load of abuse!!!

OP posts:
sherrystrull · 22/11/2020 10:29

Track and trace haven't been in touch either times my dc have had to isolate through nursery or school.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/11/2020 10:34

Track & trace have not been in contact yet

They won't contact you in this situation. It's the nursery / school that contacts you and asks you to isolate them.

We've just been through this, it's been a long two weeks but luckily no symptoms developed.

MoirasRoses · 22/11/2020 10:48

@2anddone - what a horrible post. I’m perfectly happy to look after my child, I love her more than life, but I work, so I bloody have to send her to nursery. I’m dreading them closing. I’ll have to take time of work, I’m on the phone all day which I cannot do with a 3 year old & 8 month old. And I’ve only got so much annual leave, so eventually it’ll be unpaid which has implications for my mortgage & bills & food. Let alone my employer getting more & more annoyed. If theirs redundancies, who is line? The mum having to isolate at home with young child or the Dad who gets to keep going to work?

Try being kind. Your post was horribly unkind & unnecessary. Angry

Ronnie1234 · 27/11/2020 06:24

@MoirasRoses
Thank you!
@2anddone
Don't know why people have to be unnecessarily unkind
We're all on the same storm but in different boats
My husband is self employed cannot & never has taken time off for childcare it's always me it's also his busiest time of the year
It's always me taking the time off with 9 & 3 year old
Granted the 9 year old can go with him some days in holidays etc now but only because she's older
We are very fortunate in many ways we have a nice life but it's paid with in time! I was genuinely just asking some advice!
So far we've got on ok lots of painting & drawing by my desk! Old toys out, she's been playing 'nursery'
I just really feel for her that she stuck in while the rest of the house can go out
But these children are resilient & she's been good as good!
Mega treat afternoon for her a week Saturday when allowed out 😊
