Would you prefer 5 days of proper Christmas or a slight relaxation now?

The BBC seem to be suggesting hat the tiers will be tightened when we come out of this lockdown, in order that we can have 5 days of family gatherings at Christmas.

Personally, I'd far rather we go back to groups of six and outdoor sport than continue to restrict all that so we can have a "proper" Christmas.

Sorry for the sidetrack.
It remains the case that mixing households at Christmas will have terrible consequences for the NHS and schools, not to mention the health and lives of the population.

(special family situations exempted of course)

Unless the numbers are really low it doesn’t matter whether we’re ‘allowed’ to mix or not, it’s a stupid idea and will spread the virus and will mean that some of us are even more locked down than we are now and more people will die. It’s one day, in one year. Watch tv and eat chocolate or whatever. We’re nearly there.

A slight relaxation now. I don't want a Christmas free for all and then harsher measures in January, it will destroy businesses.

Bit like BJ will do after Brexit has been 'delivered'

And let's not keep him a minute longer.

We can look forward to Michael Gove or Richie Rishie (what virus? just spend spend spend, mix in restaurants, pubs, bars, airplanes, close schools if necessary, just be good consumers).

I don't give a toss either way. The answer to this is in regular testing and/or vaccines. The focus on christmas is just a way to control, giving most of of the population something to look forward to so they don't completely revolt and send figures sky high before the vaccines start getting delivered. They know people will disregard them at Christmas anyway so this is just a desperate way to try to maintain some authority over the situation.

Since we won't have vaccine or testing for the whole country by Christmas, mixing households and reopening the economy, even for 5 days is going to come at a very high cost to health, lives, schooling in January and February, the functioning of the NHS and those who work in it. Most people don't think it is s worth it.

No loosening of restrictions. 4 of my classes out of 6 have had positive cases. If people want schools to have any chance of remaining open it cant be a 'free for all' for Christmas.
