What is going to happen to Bristol after lockdown?

Bristol is now at 600 cases per 100,000. I don't know if that is record for the country but it is 50% higher than Manchester and it wasn't long ago when 20 was seen as bad.

What will the govt do on December 3?

There were plenty of cases in Bristol City centre schools before the students came back.

South Glos and Bath are also fairly high but not as high as Bristol. I'm unsure what will happen- all areas around here were level 1 before this- (maybe adding to the problem?) and with fairly high student populations. Just seem to be levelling off not declining really either.

According to COVID messenger the rates in Bristol are starting to fall, but they are still very high. I hope we go into at least tier 3 (or whatever the equivalent is in the new system). I also worry about what will happen in January when all the students come back. I really hope the universities (all over the UK, not just Bristol) do remote learning in the new year, but I doubt that will happen.

Tier 3 is my guess. We live fairly close and have family in Bristol.

Read is gone down again I think to 430 which is a good sign but still not enough

bathsh3ba · 23/11/2020 21:04

There's an article on Bristol Post saying Bristol, North Somerset and South Glos all 'likely' to be Tier 3 😔

Sad

Somebody on another thread recommended a beta NHS site when you can check what is going on around your postcode dividing cities into regions.

I have the dubious pleasure of living in the same zone as Bath Uni (where students started returning from 17th September). Cases finally seem to be declining (presumably because lots have either had it, gone home, or have been reluctant to get tested).

I really really hope they have a plan for January when everybody goes back to school/Uni as I really don't think many of the local businesses will cope with another lockdown.

Hugosmugo · 24/11/2020 15:10

I'm assuming we will be tier 3. Can't believe the cases in bishopsworth and Easton:O

bathsh3ba · 24/11/2020 15:18

@Madcats, I work at Bath Uni and cases definitely on decline. Most first years in my dept at least are still on campus though, I'm teaching 'full' classes. Very few staff have caught it so I guess students have caught it through their households/social activities rather than lessons. Certainly blended learning, i.e. a mix of in person or online is currently expected to continue after Christmas - but not till February so maybe the view will be brighter by then.

Are they still doing this I wonder

They'll reopen if Bath stays in Tier 1 or 2. But I think they were mainly used by first years. That said, I've seen fewer students out in town (pre-lockdown) when I've driven through. The drinkers crowding the pavement were mainly older, in their 30s I'd say.

Orangeblossom7777 · 24/11/2020 16:12

I see, as would have the rule of 6 outside...before lockdown there were some issues with crowds etc in Bath I remember and we're meant to have some marshals now over the winter.
