Self isolating and extended household rules

If someone has been told to self isolate due to a upcoming hospital admission, can they still have contact with those that form their extended household?

Surely if you were doing that then those other members would need to isolate too

Tinkerbellflowers · 21/11/2020 17:22

I have to start isolating for 2 weeks because of an upcoming hospital stay. This means my husband has to isolate too. So we have done a big food shop and will both be wfh and not leaving the house for 2 weeks. Nor will anyone be able to come into the house.

No they can't. If you are self isolating before an operation, for example, you either isolate alone or your entire family isolate. Your hospital should be able to provide clear details.

You are also not allowed out at all, no essentials, no exercise, you may not leave the premises.
You may receive deliveries though, but you must distance for them.

Most hospitals test you during your si period a few days before admission.

No they can't.

Isolation means isolation and is really important in these circumstances. Hospitals only ask it of those whose procedures will be in clean facilities. The most vulnerable patients are treated in facilities such as that, and cancer care in particular will suffer badly if clean facilities cannot be maintained as clean

Thanks for clarifying.

I thought that perhaps because the person was living alone that we could visit as extended household, as if the person was living with us we'd be in contact anyway. I didn't realise the whole family would have to isolate for non symptomatic pre admission testing.
