Anyone know how to volunteer for the vaccination programme (to administer vaccine)

Hello, I am a nurse and work PT. I’d like to volunteer to help with the vaccination programme but despite the government saying so many nurses will be needed etc no amount of research can tell me how a qualified nurse can actually volunteer or sign up to help with the programme. Anyone more in the know than me? I am currently employed in education but am a practicing nurse on the bank and have an NMC up to date. Thanks!

Hi OP. There's an announcement coming really soon about this (possibly today in fact), My understanding is that recruitment will be through NHSP.

I came on this topic to ask this very question. I'd like to volunteer, maybe on secondment. Have scoured the internet for info. Maybe we will hear something today then.

My trust is currently advertising. Look on individual trust websites under their vacancies. They are advertised as band 4 bank staff.

Yes, I got an email through NHS returners today. Earlier on in the pandemic, I registered through NHS professionals ( doctor working in non-clinical work). They're processing stuff apparently. The email was just to ask if I didn't want to do it.

I won't hold my breath though, it was slow in March and nothing happened in the end. As you're already working clinically, it may be quicker for you.

Just checked NHSP and you can register interest
vaccine-jobs.nhsp.uk/index.html

nancybotwinbloom · 20/11/2020 17:45

Also interested do you need to be medically trained?

Northernlass99 · 20/11/2020 17:50

Vaccinator role says educated to NVQ level 3 mandatory, and first aid and experience of giving vaccines desirable. Its 11.20 per hour for 3-6 months.

Northernlass99 · 20/11/2020 17:52

There are some supervisory and registered healthcare professional jobs which obviously do need qualifications.

Where do you live? My trust has advertised for band4.5 and 6 to start in December. Have a look on nhs jobs website to see if anything local is available yet.

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 20/11/2020 18:22

It sounds like they will be using people with no medical training too - I would love to do this. I will be registering my interest! I'm sure with training it's not that hard to vaccinate people.

flowerycurtain · 20/11/2020 18:31

That's great you and others are volunteering

I'm a farmer - lots of experiments injecting animals but none of humans! Reckon they'd have me?!

Dontlickthetrolley · 20/11/2020 18:36

I work in Local Government and we've had an email asking us if we want to register our interest by filling in a questionnaire. Lots of positions available both clinical and non clinical. The wording made it sound like it was voluntary with expenses rather than paid.

Napqueen1234 · 20/11/2020 20:29

Hi all thanks for your responses! Yes you can volunteer via the link pp posted (I say volunteer but it’s paid work). For those unsure- go for it! IMs are so easy you’d be a pro within a day of training.

I fancy doing this too. I'm a pharmacist with training to administer vaccines.

FuzzyPuffling · 20/11/2020 21:02

No idea but I had to learn to inject my DH as part of his cancer treatment and it seemed to work ok. I'm sure I could put that "one lesson, here's the drugs and off you go" to good use.

Hopeful646 · 02/12/2020 09:31

Has anyone who registered their interest for this heard anything yet ? I've not heard anything and it's about 10 days ago i filled in the online form on NHSP .
