Has anyone stuck to ALL the rules?

Is it possible? How many of us are now criminals?

OP posts:

I broke the rule of six outdoors.

And I absolutely don't care that I did.

CosyAcorn · 20/11/2020 17:20

No, I've been visiting my parents (non elderly) every couple of weeks. Mostly outdoor visits to a local park or a walk together, or just a doorstep visit to say hi, drop something off. A couple of times I've gone inside when it's been against the rules.

And I spent an hour in my friend's house when I brought her a present after she got married.

I don't regret it. And try to stay away from people as much as possible inbetween visits so that the chances of me infecting anyone is very low.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 20/11/2020 17:30

My children have, by going to school. They have not worn masks, or socially distanced, and have spent time with many other people not in their household group.

User158340 · 20/11/2020 17:48

The only one I broke was back in the first lockdown I went out twice a day for a walk/exercise rather than once as I needed to get the dog out.

I guess most have broke at least one rule or guideline.

Cripesitsthegasman19 · 20/11/2020 17:55

I don't know what the rules are anymore but am probably not breaking them given that I work from home and have no social life anymore.

iVampire · 20/11/2020 17:56

I’ve been pretty much to the letter except for 3x early morning runs outdoors between March and May (I was shielding) and once going indoors when visiting my very elderly DM when it should have been outdoors only. But in my defence we were both living in ways close to isolation

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 20/11/2020 17:56

Back in April I went out twice in a day for exercise, once with the kids and then once by myself for a walk round the block once DH got home as I was going stir crazy stuck home.
Genuinely think that’s the only time though.

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 20/11/2020 17:57

(As in I did it once, not every day)

Calmandmeasured1 · 20/11/2020 18:00

I've adhered to the rules. It isn't hard to know them. Just go to the Govt website when a change is announced and, after reading them, keep the tab open so you can refer to them if you can't remember them all. It's pretty simple really.

Racoonworld · 20/11/2020 18:39

It's easy to find out the rules so that isn't an excuse for anyone. I haven't stuck to all the rules, We haven't social distanced from family and I have let them hold my baby. We've followed everything else though.
How many think they have been following the rules but haven't stayed 2 m apart from people they have visited inside or in a pub (or 1m plus mitigation such as a mask)?

viccat · 20/11/2020 18:45

Yes, I have.
I feel I to for my own protection, it would be a disaster in many ways if I got seriously ill as a freelancer living alone with no family in this country... would have zero support in any way.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 20/11/2020 18:48

At the height of the first lockdown (when things on MN were absolutely batshit) we went out for a picnic. Middle of nowhere, walked there, and we still felt sooo naughty Grin We told DS not to tell any of his teachers, just in case.

Sb2012 · 20/11/2020 18:57

@YouLikeTheBadOnesToo

I’ve only intentionally broken the rules once, when I hugged a neighbour who had just lost her daughter. I would do the same thing again, without hesitation.
I bet if you were caught you wouldn’t be fined either. I had a baby during the first lockdown and it was a complicated delivery. The consultant hugged me. You have to use common sense. It’s more about those that are not isolating after being tested positive and going around spreading the virus. Or the illegal and non essential raves and student parties.
Sb2012 · 20/11/2020 18:57

Also just to add we have all been following the rules too and intend to continue.

PositiveLife · 20/11/2020 18:59

I've not stuck to the letter of the rules but I do feel I've stuck to the intention of them.

For example, I've had 2 friends round helping me with some DIY. Technically against the rules, but allowed if I'd paid them to help me (they are both tradespeople).

Arranged to meet a friend indoors at an activity - again technically not allowed, but would be ok if we had both happened to go at the same time without arranging it (and we do go on the same evening)

DancingGuru · 20/11/2020 19:00

I’ve kept to the rules and the guidance. Only time I’ve broken them is in lockdown 1 when similar to OP i went for a run as well as a walk with dc on a couple of days.

Oooh and I went to the supermarket last week and only bought a bottle of wine - so not essential

Audreyseyebrows · 20/11/2020 19:01

I’ve broken the rules every time I go to work and can’t socially distance.

Although I’ve not been anywhere apart from work.

missmouse101 · 20/11/2020 19:19

I've absolutely stuck to them. Pretty disgusted that many haven't.

RaspberryCoulis · 20/11/2020 19:23

Nah. Because the whole covid hokey cokey is getting ridiculous. Nippy Nicola's latest rules are that you can't leave your local authority - and the nearest park, supermarket and facilities are in the next local authority along. Ridiculous, unworkable, nonsensical. So yes I'll be breaking them and won't feel even slightly guilty.

I've also been to a friend's house and she's been to mine. Complete absence of guilt over that either.

Racoonworld · 20/11/2020 19:27

You haven't been closer than 2m to a family member or friend outside your household since March? Really? I'm not sure whether to be impressed or sad at that.

Be disgusted, but I was not going to let the opportunity to see my sister, who lives 180 miles away pass me by, when she was in the area near where I live.

We met at a park and walk around, absolutely no more risk with 9 of us then if we had left 3 behind and walked around in a group of 6.

MIL is currently having district nurses in multiple times a day, that is perfectly allowed and much more risky than my illicit park stroll.

jellybeanz1212 · 20/11/2020 19:41

Nope. I've been to the shops for just a chocolate bar.

kittensarecute · 20/11/2020 19:49

Nope. I'm pretty much seeing who I would normally see (with NO social distancing as I refuse to distance from my own family).

starfish4 · 20/11/2020 19:49

We haven't, although, our DD came home from uni in Scotland against guidance. She's been struggling and her tutor suggested she contact welfare for support, so we didn't argue as we were concerned with her mental well being. She was a bit tearful on return, but has already started her Xmas job and they have more than full-time hours in top of uni work to keep her busy.

I am being very diligent about mask wearing and hand sanitising though.
