Hi my husband was hospitalised with Covid in September. He’s fine now. Had X-rays/CT scans and bloods done in hospital and all ok. Today he’s received an appointment for an X-ray. Is this a normal procedure after Covid to check lungs? Anyone had the same?

I haven’t had direct experience of covid after care but I do work in a hospital. I would say it’s completely normal to have a follow up surveillance x-ray after an image which has shown anything.

As your husband had images when he was ill it’s very likely that they did pick up changes so it will be a matter of routine that they check up on these.

If you’re at all concerned and have questions you should contact the secretary of the consultant who was leading his care (they usually have responsibility for the whole ward even if you only saw their registrar). A quick call to the ward or switchboard should point you in the right direction. The respiratory consultants are in charge of the covid wards at my hospital.

Bare in mind it may not be an immediate answer, they may have restricted office time so are only able to answer queries a couple of times a week and then it needs to be processed to get back to you (in my hospital they’d dictate a letter which can take a few days to process and approve) but generally doctors are keen to ensure that you fully understand what’s happening with your care.

I’m very pleased that the aftercare for long covid the government said patients would get is happening. Hope your husband gets the all clear.
