Didn't BJ promise to extend the vaccine to this age group? Way back in July I think
Or did I dream it.
Or has that also gone out the window.
Can't keep up with the changes anymore.

This is the message from Tesco but it is the same at all pharmacies here and has been for 3 weeks. I had one booked at LLoyds pharmacy and it was cancelled and rescheduled twice but unfortunately no stock of vaccines for those wanting to pay for it. As I said I'm 64 but in an area not rolling out the 50-64 yet.

Probably just another example of government not knowing what is going on as usual and promising lots without being able to deliver

completeberk · 20/11/2020 11:05

I am having mine tomorrow, I am 50 but in the vulnerable category.

LangClegsInSpace · 20/11/2020 11:10

I had mine yesterday. Early 50s, no underlying conditions. I was surprised my GP was rolling them out so quickly, I wasn't expecting the invitation until at least December.

Torvean32 · 20/11/2020 13:20

You ideally want the vaccine by mid November at the latest. If you can afford it, get it done at a chemist.

Yellredder · 20/11/2020 14:00

I get a voucher through work for a flu jab - can't get one as there's none available in local participating pharmacies for my age group (50)

SheilaTheThief · 20/11/2020 14:03

Under 65s should be able to get it from GP/on NHS if In any of the at risk categories.
50-64 year olds not in any at risk categories will be invited subject to availability. There might not be enough stock left

Pharmacy here only doing over 65. I am 63 and as our household pays thousands of tax I am not paying on principal. I have HBP and get prescriptions but none of us have any benefit from the magic money tree.

I got a text from my surgery today saying they have been told it will be rolled out "shortly". No help at all and I suspect sent in the hope that it will reduce the number of calls they're getting Grin

WanderingMilly · 20/11/2020 17:23

50+ are to get free jabs from December, according to the BBC news this morning.
This was originally announced ages ago, I asked our local surgery at the time and they said it would be difficult as they'd done their order early and would have run out before then.
Fortunately I booked one at Boots and had it in October, only £13. Now our whole area has run out, including surgeries and pharmacies in the local market town. I expect eventually more supplies will emerge but I doubt I would have got it before January if I'd waited.

I don't normally bother but as I'm now in my 60s and more vulnerable these days, I thought I'd go for it. I've already had COVID and didn't want to risk 'flu as well this time around.

From 01 December according to PHE:

@Mamamia456 it was my DH that told me he could not find an appointment anywhere. He spent a whole morning trying. And then gave up. He basically had the same issue as -

I work in a school, I have a free flu jab booked next week. I’m young-ish and not vulnerable

Floralnomad · 20/11/2020 19:16

I’m mid 50s and get a free jab for health reasons and when I had mine in Sept our GP practice was predicting that they would only be able to do the people who get one on health grounds or over 65 . My dh went with ds and dsis to Tesco at the beginning of October and paid to have them .

EggysMom · 20/11/2020 19:22

I got a text two days ago from the GP. That's now four different reasons why I'm entitled to a jab (over 50, hypothyroid, carer, plus my employer will fund one) and I'm still not going to do so.

TheNinjaWife · 30/11/2020 19:18

Just wanted to report back. If people are wanting to pay for flu jabs, but have been unable to have one due to supply issues it may be worth trying again. We are in the South East. I noticed our local Boots are now taking new appointments. As my husband had a voucher through work for Lloyd’s Pharmacy we went there. We were unable to book online, they are however taking walk in appointments. Mine cost £13.99 (or thereabouts).

kursaalflyer · 30/11/2020 20:45

Thanks for the update. I've just booked a Tesco slot for Wednesday. They have updated their grid with a new section for 50-64 year olds.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 30/11/2020 20:49

DH and I were both invited late October and had our about 4 weeks ago.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 30/11/2020 21:04

I paid £9 at Tesco pharmacy because I didn't want to wait until next year
