Staff member's spouse has been told to isolate by test and trace. Standard procedure, staff member carries on as usual, unless spouse develops symptoms.
Spouse does now have symptoms, so rest of household isolates for 14 days unless/until spouse gets a negative test result.
Spouse is refusing to be tested, as they have to isolate anyway so don't see the point.
Staff member has to continue to isolate even though if the spouse was tested ("symptoms" appear to be a mild cough and runny nose), they could be back at work.
I don't think there's anything for the employer to do except wait it out? I'm sure the fact that both spouse and staff member have jobs where isolation is on full pay is irrelevant

The employer can’t do anything sadly.

Well actually, unless the spouse also works for them. Then I have ideas

Sounds like they're pulling a fast one tbh wanting a cosy fully paid 2 weeks off together . Maybe he isn't getting a test because there isn't really any symptoms

If it was my spouse refusing to test if be ordering a home test and ramming it up his nose when he's asleep. Either the spouse very controlling of staff member actions ( classic not allowing to go to work) or staff member is compliant or even lying through their back teeth about the situation just to get time off work

I'm sure a fast one is being pulled and yes, there may well be control issues. The employee's test is back and negative but as spouse still apparently has symptoms and hasn't had a test, I think we just have to live with it?
FWIW it's a usually very contientuous staff member.
