Waiting for test result- should I send ds to school?

Ds had a cough on Sunday, in a panic, I booked a test yesterday 9am.
He coughed about twice yesterday, there’s nothing wrong with him
Would you send him in ?

I had a test at 13.00 on Sunday and the results were back Mon 6.00 so in plenty of time for the kids to go to school. So hopefully you won’t wait too long OP.

Joynot · 17/11/2020 10:17

Yeah, others I know from the same testing site has theirs back 18/19 hours.
It’s now been 25 for us

Of course not

lurchersrule · 17/11/2020 14:44

@Glitterblue

And this is why it's spreading 🤦🏼‍♀️
Not this isn't why it's spreading. OP has asked a question and taken on board what has been said. People who unthinkingly and uncaringly send their kids in knowing full well they have symptoms/are waiting for test results or living with someone who is are the problem, not the OP, who just had a wobble based on her son seeming fine.

All the eye-rolling comments and FFSs will just stop people asking for advice. no need for it in my opinion.

Joynot · 17/11/2020 16:50

Thanks Lurchers

Still no result

NO

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 17/11/2020 17:10

So I'm going against the grain here, and if you follow the rules, there's actually nothing saying that you shouldn't.

The reason I've said this, is because I've been in the same position but with young ds and his childminder.

He had a cough (the type you get with a cold). It was productive and not continuous.
He would cough when he woke up for the first 10 mins then he would cough maybe twice during the day.

We looked up the rules and guidance and he didn't need to stay off, isolate or get tested.

If I was twitchy then I might get him tested but in theory there would be no rules to say I couldn't send him in.

And unless I missed something, if the OP's kid doesn't have a continuous cough or fever then why shouldn't she send him in? (As per the guidelines).

Apologies in advance in case I have missed a certain rule, this is entirely possible! But I genuinely haven't seen one?

PurpleDaisies · 17/11/2020 17:11

How on earth can this be a question?

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 17/11/2020 17:11

@Swishswish26

I think it’s against the law to send him in now that you’ve booked a test. I think he will have to take the test and wait for results before going into school.
Are you sure? Can you send a link to this law?
Scarby9 · 17/11/2020 17:17

@CovidstoleTheRainbow
If you have a test because you have/had symotoms (which the OP's son did), you MUST stay at home until you get a negative result, even if you appear to have got better before the results arrive. Thst is explicitly stated on the website.
The only people who can go out and about while waiting for a test result are those having tests routinely as part of their job, or taking part in one of the studies and required to do so with the aim of picking up asymptomatic people.

PurpleDaisies · 17/11/2020 17:18

Just think about what the consequences of sending him in and the getting a positive test would be.

One more day off school vs your name being mud forever with all those teachers and pupils who would have to self isolate because of your bad decision.

He had a cough badly enough to order a test. Keep him off.

Wellhellyeah · 17/11/2020 17:20

Why is this even a question?
It's not like we're in a pandemic where those are the symptoms.
Oh. Wait.Hmm

But on another thread, someone is being told to lie on the questions to get a test for their son because symptoms don't present the same in kids as they do adults.

All the and this is why its spreading stuff is BS. It's a virus. They been around since just after bacteria on earth. They spread. People dont pass them.around like pass the parcel. They have evolved over millennia to that very well on their own.

Anyway, science aside. OP, how would it go down if ds was at school today and tomorrow first thing you phone school to say he is positive? You would be extremely unpopular so laws and science aside, it's best to wait for the results. Or the pitchforks will be out in force.

I hope its negative. Ours took 20 hours ish good luck

Branleuse · 17/11/2020 17:30

you have to isolate now youve done the test.
I had to do it the other week, its a pain, but you should get the results soon

PrivateD00r · 17/11/2020 17:32

I hope the result comes back soon op Flowers

Joynot · 17/11/2020 19:21

Finally- negative result

I think you need NOT to put the science aside, and try to understand it instead!! 🙇🏻‍♀️
year5teacher · 17/11/2020 20:24

Well thankfully it’s negative. But Jesus fucking Christ. This actually makes me so angry. It is so disrespectful to all school staff and the other children in your child’s class and ALL their families. Not to be a twat but actions like this are part of the reason I don’t feel comfortable seeing my family indoors even when we were allowed to.

^^This. The guidelines are quite clear on what a continuous cough was and this doesn't sound like one. However, you thought it serious enough at the time to book a test so I would not have sent him in until the test returned because OMG if it actually had turned out positive!

As an aside comment, if is was a temperature that only lasted a short while then disappeared then isolate and test.

Glad the test was negative.

Joynot · 17/11/2020 20:59

What actions year5? I didn’t actually do anything, just asked a question.

I was unsure because I know I overreacted about the cough.
I panicked and I was worried that if I left it to see how he was in the morning, there wouldn’t be any availability.
In a precovid world, he wouldn’t have even mentioned the cough.
No temp, a very minor cough, which was probably caused by him shouting with his mates on x box.

OP posts:
Legoandloldolls · 17/11/2020 22:42

Yep I do thanks. I use my biology degree and experience of working as a graduate as a medical researcher.

If you think that everyone who has caught or spread covid simply because they are feckless than I hope people are kinder to you if you catch it. Someone could be asymptomatic and spreading it. It's a infectious disease. It's really not spreading because people catching and spreading are doing so on purpose. So the reason its spreads I'm sorry or incorrect to say, just my understanding from three years at university studying biology, it's because that's how viruses work. But hey, what do I know? Maybe people are simply coughing onto doorknobs and people are then chasing to lick them? Maybe science has moved on since my studies 🤷‍♀️

Well yes. Thats pretty much what we should all be doing. Not thinking "am i allowed" but "is it completely necessary and should I"
