Extremely vulnerable child. School

So we recently received a letter saying our youngest is extremely vulnerable. It states on the letter that they shouldn’t be in school

Was just wondering what others have done about siblings? We’ve now got 2 extremely vulnerable family members who live in the same household. My eldest school won’t allow them time off. So I’d have to de register them.

If I de register then. Can they refuse to take them back?

Thanks all

@OpheliasCrayon. Can I just say a massive thank you! Your replies have helped me. As @HazeyJaneII says. The school for the child with the CEV illness. They’ve been good. Not amazing. But they’ve said I can kee her off I definitely without a problem.

It’s the siblings school that aren’t of help really. Yes I do have a letter. But they say because they aren’t the one with the illness. It doesn’t matter and they HAVE to be in school. Regardless.

Home schooling is very much an option. It’s something I’ve thought about for over a year. So I’m ready for it.

Thank you all so very much. I contacted the council today. To ask if they had any options. But they don’t. It’s either all or nothing it seems. Sigh

It's a pleasure. It's a minefield, honestly, and I really sympathise with your struggle.

I feel like if you've been considering home schooling anyway and would feel that this is safest for your family it may well be the best option. You seem well prepared and I'm sure you'll make a good job of it.

Be sure to join face book groups and stuff for other home school children. Whilst you may not be able to safely meet up now it will be important in future ! Good luck

@Happyheartlovelife Flowers it is so difficult isn't it. I'm an ECV teacher (as is Ophelia I think from other threads). I'm in school because I can't afford to stay home on SSP, and DD is in a different school because I'd be fined if I pull her out, so we have extra risk there. The whole scenario is a nightmare. I really feel for you.

Ecv covers a wide spectrum too, have you spoken to his consultant? Letters go on diagnosis but they can be variable in impact

All children asked to shield shouid have been individually reviewed by their consultant over the summer, in light of the new paediatric guidelines. Most DC have been deshielded as a result.

Doesn't make it any easier for those who were asked to continue.

It is so tough.
Dh is ecv but we still have to send kids in. Two are currently self isolating as close contacts. Even worse dh is immunosupressed so may not even be able to have vaccine.
Sympathy to everyone in this stressful boat

You don’t have to deregister and if you’re feeling forced to that is unrolling which is illegal.
The law hasn’t caught up with all the conflicts in the legal system regarding attendance in a pandemic.
Your school may not refer you for fines and even if they do it is quite a process. Then you get 28 days to pay the fines when you’ve been through the process.
The current situation surrounding schools does not seem sustainable and the current situation surrounding schools and vulnerable people is unforgivable.
BRTUS on Facebook - not as militant as the boycott but sounds! - is a great source of advice. Good luck 💐

Phone in and say she is isolating re possible exposure
This doesn't affect school attendance data in any way.
The school can not legally ask for evidence of any covid test or the results.
This gives you 10 days leeway and delays the issue of a fine.
They should provide you with online work. They do not need to offer any work if you deregister.
Go and speak to the doctor about the situation and the risks. Once you have a letter for the child they can adjust the attendance code and will stop chasing you.
If you have no letter then the expectation is the child should be in school and a fine £120 may be issued. This is the worst scenario.

They can't issue another fine that term.
