Will the vaccine be available privately?

Obviously we don’t know for sure - but what do people think?

And if so, would you pay to have it?

Everything I've read suggests it won't be available privately.

If it was available privately, I wouldn't pay for it. I'm in a low risk group and I'd prefer it go to someone who actually needs it.

I think not at the beginning but it Might be by summer once most of vulnerable should have been vaccines. I’ve the feeling it might be a requirement for travelling and if so we’ll need to get them somehow. I will wait till summer and if offered privately I’ll have it. My family is in Spain and haven’t managed to see them this year so ill do anything to be able to hug them again

We do know, they've said it won't be available privately

Obviously that could change but no one can predict the future.

I happily pay for the flu jab but think it would be very wrong for this to be available privately, especially initially as the rollout needs to be controlled according to risk.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/11/2020 18:26

Only if it was a require

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/11/2020 18:27

Fat fingers pressing post too soon.

Only if it was a requirement to be able to travel abroad for example. If it wasn't then no, I would not pay privately. I'm low risk and don't need it desperately.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 14/11/2020 18:28

I hope so. Healthy people under 50 have died so should have the option to have it if the NHS say no. Lots of travel and large gatherings will insist on it so it has to be available somehow.

I think this is almost certain at some point down the line, places who’ve eradicated it would be crazy not to insist on a certified vaccination certificate to enter.
Youngatheart00 · 14/11/2020 18:30

That was my thought - whilst I’m not in a vulnerable category and wouldn’t want to take stocks away from the priority groups, if it unlocked the ability to travel safely I would do so. I can’t see how it won’t be available privately if there’s a demand. Post the initial 3 months of priority vaccination maybe.

I have no doubt that it will be

FourTeaFallOut · 14/11/2020 18:48

No, I don't think they will make it available privately. JVT seemed pretty convinced that it would not, although he couldn't rule it out completely. If they were to make it available I'd pay a hefty sum for the privilege - I'm under 45 but ecv so although I'm considered sick enough to be asked to shield I wouldn't see a vaccine until round six of vaccinations.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 14/11/2020 18:48

Not until all the priority groups (at least until group 7, the vulnerable, and possibly group 10, age 50+) have been done

Mumtofourandnomore · 14/11/2020 18:50

I really want to get it privately - my family all live on the Isle of Man and my mum has cancer, I can’t wait to see them all again but I’ll be at the bottom of the vaccine priority list :-(
