Should I get a test or am I being silly

I had chills in the night and couldn't get warm even though I was in bed. Feel like I have a slight temp. I'm snotty and have dodgy stomach, bit nauseous. Didn't sleep well so I'm knackered. Would you bother with a test or am I being paranoid? Dd2 has been snotty all week but no temp.

No, I don't think you're being paranoid. I think you should get a test. You mention having a fever, and that is one of the symptoms for which a test is advised.

Porcupineinwaiting · 14/11/2020 10:53

Yes, I'd test in those circumstances

Merename · 14/11/2020 10:54

Yes I’d test too - hopefully isn’t covid but you don’t sound paranoid to me.

NaturalLight · 14/11/2020 10:56

If you want a test, get a test. You have a slight temperature. People keep saying it’s only a fever if above a certain temperature but I disagree.

Jroseforever · 14/11/2020 11:03

No I wouldn’t

Unless I actually had a temperature. Do you have a thermometer?

InMeJimJams · 14/11/2020 11:04

@NaturalLight that's what my partner said but thought it was anything over 37.5.

OP posts:
NaturalLight · 14/11/2020 11:27

I guess the guidance does say “high temperature”. I’ve never owned a thermometer!

ScottishStottie · 14/11/2020 11:30

Thw guidence specifically says you dont need a thermometer to tell you if you have fever as a symptom. It says if you feel hot to touch if i remember correctly. So if you feel feverish, that is enough of a symptom to get a test.

As an aside, i had a slight coughthat lasted for a day, went for a test but felt a bit silly about it, and tested positive. So fae better to go if you are in any doubt.

Pipandmum · 14/11/2020 11:36

My friend lost her sense of smell and felt 'off'. No fever. Positive test. She works in a school so it was obviously a good idea!
Just get it done.

DrizzleandDamp · 14/11/2020 11:39

Oh interesting I’m in the same boat but haven’t thought of testing, I have tummy pains sporadically, head feels foggy, keep saying the wrong words and I’m sluggish. Sneezing and snotty and headache. Just generally crap. But no cough, no high temp and I can taste ok, so no symptoms that would indicate a test.

Glitterblue · 14/11/2020 11:41

I've lost my sense of smell after what I thought was an allergy attack yesterday.....I feel "off" but was putting that down to lack of sleep last night with the hideous allergies....I have no idea what I was allergic to though and I've been wondering if I should get a test. I think perhaps I should.
SunShinesStill · 14/11/2020 11:43

Yes of course you get a test. You can’t magically tell if it is or isn’t and if it is it stops the spread and gets you help if you get sick.

raviolidreaming · 14/11/2020 11:44

Glitterblue - you absolutely should be isolating and getting tested with loss of smell.

InMeJimJams · 14/11/2020 12:00

It's really difficult to say if my sense of smell is off as well @Glitterblue as it's off most of the time anyway due to allergies etc. The smell of asda's maple pancakes was enough to set off an attack the other day, no idea why but my nose often does that to me. I've booked a test now anyway so fingers crossed it's negative.
I do have a digital thermometer but don't trust it much as it's been a bit crap in the past. My temp has come down a bit now but I'm still getting tested just in case.

Loss/change of taste/smell is just about the most common symptom isn't it? Everyone should get a test for that, I'm surprised you didn't get one straight away tbh

My stomach is out of control it's got me up the last 2 mornings and my head is banging. Don't think I have any other symptoms but am wondering... I'm still in bed.
Todayisgood2 · 14/11/2020 12:07

I'd test

Ladylimpet · 14/11/2020 15:47

I would test in every one of those circumstances. I have covid. Started off achy, headache, sneezy, eyeballs hurting. I'm well into the illness now and still no cough, temperature or loss of taste. I'm sure if you phoned 111 (not saying do that), they are advising testing.
I don't feel guilty getting a test at the moment. Wouldn't have done a month or two ago when they were short.
I think we owe it to the people we know and love.

BurningEars · 14/11/2020 15:50

Get a test. I didn’t lose my sense of smell until two weeks after my positive tests.

DrizzleandDamp · 14/11/2020 15:53

How do you even get a test now, I can’t drive anywhere ours is an hour away. I feel too crap to drive the kids an hour.

abstractzebra · 14/11/2020 15:54

There's an online questionnaire on the NHS website.
You just answer the questions and it tells you at the end if you should take any action.
I've been ill since the beginning of the month with a bad cold/mild flu and the answer was that it was unlikely to be covid, so I didn't get a test.

Ladylimpet · 14/11/2020 15:56

I'm sure you can have one sent in the post of you can't get anywhere.
I had a feeling I had covid. Few weird feelings I'd never experienced before (plus the fact I'd come into contact with two positives). Go with your gut x

Augustbreeze · 14/11/2020 16:15

@DrizzleandDamp request a postal test via the website

InMeJimJams · 14/11/2020 16:52

Been for the test and now have a banging headache as well. My mum suggested it could be because I had the flu jab on Tuesday and not covid but I've never reacted to flu jab like this before. I was extremely tired once afterwards but that's it. Hopefully the results will come quickly.

OP posts:
Porcupineinwaiting · 14/11/2020 17:16

I felt absolutely terrible after last year's flu jab for the first time ever, so it's possible. But of course there are other possibilities so testing was the right thing to do. Good luck, hope you are over the eirst soon (whatever it is).
