Should he get tested?

My DH has a close contact whose fiancé has tested positive for coronavirus. He's seen this contact at close quarters twice this week, for hours at a time.

No symptoms so far and the person whose fiancé it is hasn't tested as he has no symptoms. But living with, kissing, shagging etc, surely he has it?

I'm 31 weeks pregnant and mindful of asymptomatic transmission. I have 2 risk factors for serious illness. Should DH have a test? I'm having a difficult pregnancy with lots of appointments and worried I'd be dragging the virus around and risking people's health.

No he doesnt need to test. It is possible that the close contact hasn't got it. Even if he does have it and has passed it to your dh (2 big ifs), if he tests too early he will get a negative result.

I know it's scary but you just have to wait.

I would keep DH at arms length to see if he develops symptoms (well 2 arms lengths ideally) but if in a week he has no symptoms you can go back to cuddling up etc.

He's been cuddling me all day! I haven't had the heart to say fuck off! We've got a 6 year old DS as well.

Your DH might have caught it from someone who might have caught it from someone else?? your DH doesn’t need to isolate at this stage and a test will be no use either tbh

Racoonworld · 14/11/2020 09:41

A negative test now won’t mean he doesn’t and it so will be pointless to get a test. If you’re worried keep away from him for a bit. He should be being very careful as you’re pregnant and not having close contact with people.

A friend of mine had it (confirmed with a test) and ended up in hospital. His husband was tested (this was in the early days) and did not have it despite sharing a bed etc etc with my friend while he had the virus. Exposure does not mean that your DHs friend has definitely caught it.

I wouldn't isolate or test but I'd be very aware of any possible symptoms and act on them.

PurpleDaisies · 14/11/2020 17:24

No. You don’t need a test.
