How many times has your child had to test?

DS (14 months) started nursery 3 months ago in mid August.

Nursery have sent him home again today for the fourth time to get tested. That's now four times within three months, I'm really starting to lose my patience. Not with nursery, but with the whole virus situation, nevermind the inconsistency with how long the result takes to come back.

Has anyone else had to take their DC for tests as often as we have? Whenever we mention to any real life friends/family they just say 'oooh, your nursery is strict' which makes me wonder whether anyone else is having this same level of disruption.

Is it because he's having a fever? My DS has had to get one test because he had a fever while at nursery. Was quite obviously teething related, but understand they have to be cautious. We were lucky though as his test came back the same day

Four, between my two kids. Four. Three for now toddler DS, first time for a temperature, the others for a cough. Older child once, for a random slight temperature raise.

I'm very cautious, but better to be safe than sorry.

Surely they have sent him home because he is unwell?

2 dc and one test, ds had a cough so we ordered a home test (obviously the cough completely disappeared by the next day) but the results were quick, ordered test on Tues, it arrived and we sent it back on Wednesday the got the result during the night on Thursday.

None, thank goodness. We live v rurally and his whole primary school has less than 40 pupils, so small, manageable bubbles. For all this, I am very grateful. It's a battle getting him to clean his bloody teeth sometimes, let alone stick a swab up his nose and down his throat.

Zero. DS1 is 4 and DS2 is 2. Both were at nursery as soon as they opened up again and the eldest started school in September.

2yr old twice and 18mo 4 times! Nursery send them home the second they get a temperature. My was told to collect my eldest because her temperature was 38. Honestly, by the time I got there she was completely normal temperature and Harry as Larry. It wasn't a fever, she just got hot for a minute! They STILL wouldn't keep her even after they tested again and she was normal!

I think it’s just the age of your DC and that his immune system is developing.

Basically, you’re just getting the usual kid starts nursery/childcare and picks up absolutely everything misery all working parents go through in the first year back after maternity leave, but with the added testing & isolation annoyance.

Look on the bright side - employers can’t discriminate for COVID reasons this year as obviously no alternative childcare is available. In normal times it’s awful anyway trying to balance this and not look flaky to your employer.

But in answer to your question, my primary age DC tested once, my secondary not tested yet. Not in a high-risk area though.

Ds1 - twice (18). Ds2 once (7). Ds3 (5) three times as well as a 2 week quarantine right at the beginning before testing was avaliablefor key worker kids. Me - twice. Dp once. Dsd (3) once.

Dp currently has covid. His was the only positive out of the 10 tests we have had as a family.

Our tests run the full timeline of covid however as a keywords tests have been avaliable to us since mid April I think.

Twice, first time because she was in hsopital with a viral infevtion which caused a temp so they had to do it as precaution. 2nd time was because she had a temp at nursery, first was negative, second was inconclusive. Government said we had to order another but they won't less us because she'd just done a test, so she's been at home all week whilst we're working. It's been a nightmare. She's fine and her temp lasted all of 3 hours

Sorry I just retaliated I didn't even answer your question. I have high school and primary kids and none of them have needed to isolate or test.

Almost 5yr old 4, maybe 5? I forget! And 2yr old once. None directed by school but all coughs and twice results that were unclear so she had to have another test (don’t try swabbing the throat of small kids people )

None of my DC (one at primary, two at secondary) have had to take a test yet.

DD 2years zero and at nursery, but we’ve just had a positive test at nursery so one bubble is closed and isolating for 14 days so can see why it’s important to test if there is any chance it could be Covid-19

DD had weekly surveillance tests when she worked in care home.

None for suspected illness in DC. Big DS had stuffed nose & sore throat, gave it to little DS, little DS gave it to DH who got sore throat AND a cough (always gets a cough). DH tested negative. I never had a symptom.

DD aged 13 tested once (positive)
DS aged 9 tested once (positive)

Five kids, one primary, all tested once, all positive except one

None. In Scotland so been back at school 3 months now. High school of 800+ pupils. We were informed of one case but not a close contact.
