Class self-isolating, can kids go between separated houses?

Sorry if this has been answered before, have googled but the advice is conflicting. Ds is currently with me, he had got to isolate for another 10 days, and is due to go to his Dads tomorrow.
I am hoping he can still go. Does anyone know whether this comes under providing necessary care or another jurisdiction?

I would hazard a guess not as you would be spreading the risk wouldn't you?

Coffeshopgirl · 13/11/2020 11:03

Are you and ds’s father isolating also? I agree it’s about keeping the risk of spreading down. It may be wise to hunker down for the next 10 days than have to consider the wider circle of people who are at risk.

NoEffingWay · 13/11/2020 11:28

Have been advised that we don't need to isolate, only DS. He is completely asymptomatic and very well in himself (bored already!).

booboo24 · 13/11/2020 11:33

If he has been told to isolate I personally would keep him at home with you. He could be asymptomatic and pass it on to you ex and therefore anyone he is in contact with

LindaEllen · 13/11/2020 11:38

If he's isolating, no, he shouldn't leave your house.
If it's necessary care, his dad can come and keep an eye on him at yours until you get home.
But I assume it's not 'necessary care', just normal contact.

NoEffingWay · 13/11/2020 11:57

I work for the nhs doing 14 hour shifts, and they have advised I am expected to carry on working. Ex-h works from home. I was hoping essential care covered this as DS is nearly 9. I work a
mix of days and nights.

I think it's ok. Separated parents act as a bubble. BUT if ds developed symptoms both households would be compelled to isolate.

Arosadra · 13/11/2020 13:39

They can go between separated parents’ houses.

Arosadra · 13/11/2020 13:41

Could he go to his dad’s for the isolation period if not? But it’s definitely within the rules for him to move between his parents’ homes. I had to check this out for various reasons when ds had to isolate.

NoEffingWay · 13/11/2020 15:21

@Arosadra do you know where you found the information that definitively said that? I have called 119 and they have confirmed that DS can go between the two houses but can't email me, and couldn't signpost me to the right information.

Ex-h has accused me of 'interpreting the rules to my own benefit'. Feeling stressed and upset today as cancelling shifts will mean I don't get paid (bank staff) and won't be able to earn anything.
Ex-h is a bit of a dick. He won't listen to me, only written information.

OP posts:
Arosadra · 13/11/2020 15:24

I was told it verbally by the school and the Local Authority. I don’t have anything written I’m afraid.

Arosadra · 13/11/2020 15:24

He sounds like a prick, no wonder he’s an ex!

Christmasbiscuit · 13/11/2020 15:26

I kept mine with me, he didn't leave the house. It's a pain.

KylieKoKo · 13/11/2020 15:59

Children can go between separate houses.

But I would say the sensible thing depends on a number of factors.

Is your ex vulnerable?
Is he around vulnerable people such as elderly relatives?
Does he need to travel to work on public transport?

If the answer to any of these is yes I'd suggest it's better to keep your child at home.

Dontlickthetrolley · 13/11/2020 15:59

This was from a solicitors site, I found the link on a post on here from about 3 weeks ago if you do a search you should find it.

TheSunIsStillShining · 13/11/2020 16:25

Doesn't anyone use their own common sense?
Isolate=not meet anyone in order to reduce the likeliness of spreading a disease. This means, in simple terms:

  • no, not going over to dad (ex)
  • not going to friends

the fact that the guidance is that parents should go to work is stupid. What are the chances of a kid not infecting their parents when they use the same kitchen, same bath,....etc.

With teens it's probably less as we don't see them most of the time :)

GoJoe2020 · 13/11/2020 16:28

Doesn't anyone use their own common sense?

for one, your common sense has failed, because you are entirely wrong in your assumptions.
And OP has to work, is expected to work, and won't get paid if she doesn't work. She doesn't need to isolate so there is no problem with her working.

OP, your child is not isolating but restricting movements, as they have no symptoms. Using the latter term may help with people like the above getting their knickers in a bunch as they don't actually understand but isolating sounds more serious.

Christmasbiscuit · 13/11/2020 16:42

This says they shouldn't go?

Christmasbiscuit · 13/11/2020 16:43

Sorry it uploaded in poor quality.

BlackeyedSusan · 13/11/2020 16:45

Apparently transferring children between houses is NOT one of the exceptions from staying at home. It was posted on another thread recently, some law firm/charity advice. There was definitely a link in the previous thread.

I remember because I have had the children/1child at home for two fortnight's of isolation and two waiting for test results few days of isolation.

GandalfTheGoat · 13/11/2020 16:50

This also suggests the answer is no...

daisychains8 · 13/11/2020 16:51

Oooh- just asked the same question on another thread.
Xxx

Nonamesavail · 13/11/2020 16:53

I was told I had to stick to the court order...so yes

allgoodthings84 · 13/11/2020 18:48

I completely get trying to limit transmission etc but what if it’s 50/50 care? So it’s ok for just one parent to have to lose 2 weeks pay (then not being able to pay the bills) and annoy their employer while the other parent gets to carry on as normal

AIMD · 13/11/2020 18:59

I don’t know what the ‘official’ rules are....I don’t think the rules can ever be Clear for every single possible situation.

I would send him personally. I mean if he gets in the car and gets out straight into his dad house and his dad is mostly at home I don’t see that is that likely to spread Covid.
