How long are people waiting for test results?

I know I'm probably really impatient but im stuck at home lile I'm sure many are, dc's are off school because I have a cough, im self employed so losing money and both dc's have ASD and are confused as to why they are at home. I tested yesterday morning, was told 24-48 hours but also told that most results are taking 24 hours. So far heard nothing, I will have to decide soon if I need to cancel school transport dor dd2. Whats the chances of getting my results today? How long did it take to get yours? And can it happen at any time of the day?

5 days, inconclusive. Told me it was lost first, then sent inconclusive.

I'm waiting on a test result for dc1 and have been told that it's only him who needs to isolate before result comes - other dc school said still send them in, they and I don't need to isolate unless and until dc1 has a positive result. Which seems a bit crazy, but are you sure you have to keep yours off if they have transport so don't need you to break isolation to take them?

HarrietOh · 13/11/2020 07:29

Tested Monday 10:30am, positive result Tuesday 8pm.

HarrietOh · 13/11/2020 07:30

@BewareTheBeardedDragon that’s incorrect, if a household member has symptoms the whole household isolated until the test result comes back.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 13/11/2020 07:47

That's not what it says on the government site, and not what the dc school told me. Can you tell me where to find that written because I can't keep them home without risking a fine for each.

From my child's nursery yesterday... @BewareTheBeardedDragon Can't believe you've been given that advice. Shocking

Frazzled13 · 13/11/2020 08:08

72 hours and counting

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 13/11/2020 08:09

That's certainly different to what I've been told - but that is not official advice? It's the nursery's interpretation? Why would the child with symptoms have to isolate even if they have a negative test? I thought the whole point of testing was to prevent unnecessary isolation periods?

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 13/11/2020 08:11

Ah, thanks for the link @starofandromeda - I read that through several times yesterday and somehow still managed to miss 'if you live with someone who has symptoms'
I will send that to dc school and keep them all home.

ScrapThatThen · 13/11/2020 08:11

I think they are getting confused between if your other child is off school due to a bubble bursting - in which case you wouldn't have to isolate as well - but as your child has symptoms you must all isolate and test.

parrotonmyshoulder · 13/11/2020 08:12

From gov.uk website
‘When to self-isolate

Self-isolate immediately if:

you have any symptoms of coronavirus (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste)
you've tested positive for coronavirus – this means you have coronavirus
you live with someone who has symptoms or tested positive‘

ScrapThatThen · 13/11/2020 08:13

My df has been waiting since Tuesday morning for a test result.

mrsmacaw · 13/11/2020 08:20

89 hours and still waiting! I’m starting to give up hope.

Strwberry · 13/11/2020 08:21

Bristol. I had a call from my daughter’s nursery on Monday at 1:30pm that she has got a high temperature. At 4pm she had her test done ( there was over 600 tests available that day when I was booking the test online). We had the results (negative) on Thursday 6:00am. I found the process to be very quick.

minnie465 · 13/11/2020 08:27

Sorry @BewareTheBeardedDragon I probably confused you. My child has to isolate for 14 days now anyway due to being a close contact with a child in his bubble who tested positive yesterday.

DH and I don't have to isolate unless DS develops symptoms. In which case we would have to isolate until DS receives negative test result.

It's definitely hard to get your head around all the advice. And it feels so strange to me as DS could be asymptotic and pass Covid to me. I am a healthcare worker and will be going to work as normal. so could pass the virus on to vulnerable patients 🤷‍♀️ I suppose it's hard to know where to draw the line though

Banjarine · 13/11/2020 08:30

Tested at 11am Monday at a testing centre and still have heard nothing. Tried to chase it up yesterday and was told I had to wait til Saturday.
Stuck in limbo here

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 13/11/2020 08:35

Thanks @minnie465 and others who have pointed me in the right direction. I just spoke to school and they said they gave me the wrong advice yesterday, so all is well, but it's all definitely confusing ConfusedConfusedConfused

PlantDoctor · 13/11/2020 11:12

Had my negative result back this morning after 71 hours

Lovemusic33 · 13/11/2020 13:18

Got mine this morning too, huge rush to get DD’s to school after I had cancelled taxi. A relief to get a negative and kinds of proves that there are many viruses with similar symptoms as I have all 3 covid symptoms as well as cold symptoms.

DipSwimSwoosh · 13/11/2020 13:43

Negative here too after 48 hours.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 13/11/2020 16:14

Well, after all that the result came back, negative, today, less than 24hrs after testing at a drive in test centre. Phew

blowinahoolie · 13/11/2020 19:38

Test Monday afternoon this week. Both DCs in nursery referred by nursery staff. Decided by today enough was enough and chatted to an advisor on NHS Inform coronavirus helpline who suggested that my contact details may have not be taken correctly at the other end of the phone on the Monday. I said exactly, so that's why we need to get in contact with someone who can confirm this...she suggested Health Protection Scotland, so was given the telephone number for the local public health department...BINGO. Was told by public health department both DC were negative. Result.

Absolutely ridiculous system. What a shambles.

Please do try this avenue if like myself you have waited five days. Might only apply to others resident in Scotland though.

DoThePropeller · 14/11/2020 09:43

Still nothing here, 96 hours! 😫

kimlo · 14/11/2020 11:01

test yesterday at half 1, results this morning at 8 so 18 and a half hours.
