Would you book a 2022 summer holiday?

Through TUI or one of the other big companies? I can’t decide if it’s a savvy thing to do while their prices are still low, or whether they’re at risk of going bust. I suspect we might be priced out of 2021 and the demand will be huge.

Last thing I want is to be stuck moving the dates or whatever and then paying out thousands in “the difference”.

We've already booked a holiday for May 2021 and will have to take the financial risk as we booked independently.

2022 still too far away for me to want to book anything.

OpheliasCrayon · 12/11/2020 09:53

I never book anything in advance I'm a very last minute person but yes if I did book in advance I would. And stick it on credit card in case of any issues. Would be nice to have something to look forward to I reckon!

HairyFloppins · 12/11/2020 10:14

I don't book that far in advance but have booked for next summer.

I always use my credit card to book and had to do a few claims this year to get money back and it was a very quick and easy process.

IcedPurple · 12/11/2020 10:25

Quite a few people managed to go on holiday even this year - much to the tut-tutting of MNers - so I'd imagine two years from now will be fine. As a PP said, if nobody is going on holiday in 2 years, the travel industry will be bankrupt. Speaking for myself, I never book holidays that far ahead even in normal times, but if you're a 'planner' then go for it.

helloxhristmas · 12/11/2020 10:27

Yes. I've booked 2021 too but only paid he deposit I wont pay the balance until its due so we will hopefully have a clearer picture of the situation at the at time.

I am here to save the travel industry too. Had two big holidays cancelled for significant events in my life. There is NO way those are going to be forgotton about. There are some fab Business Class Fares around to where I want to go with top airlines (dont mean BA - they are OK but definitely not what they were!). Want to try a Middle Eastern or Far Eastern airline.

CarryOnWalking · 12/11/2020 11:38

2022 on credit card - yes
2021 no

Mynameisntsusan · 12/11/2020 11:50

Go for it but just DO NOT USE LOVEHOLIDAYS!

Bathroom12345 · 12/11/2020 11:58

Trainfinders for long haul holidays have been good. Gave me my money back both times before they even got refunded from the airline and we were not talking about insignificant amounts.

Frazzled2207 · 12/11/2020 12:04

I’d never book two years ahead. I wouldn’t book 2021 from scratch but my 2020 trip has been rescheduled to 2021- hoping that will go ahead but I’m 50/50 atm.

CoffeeCreamandSugar · 13/11/2020 09:46

No. I have a motorhome and I’m going to see what happens

MissAHannigan · 13/11/2020 10:06

We've booked for Easter 2021 with the understanding that we might not get to go.

We have a booking for January 2021 that we made at the start of this year. I'm still hopeful that might be going ahead but prepared for the fact it likely won't.

chatteringfool · 13/11/2020 10:25

God no do not book with Tui, they have behaved appallingly at the start of all this, took me months to get my refund and that was with me chasing and leaving messages on their Facebook page. Very stressful time, them holding onto customers money when they needed it desparately.

I will not book anything until I have the vaccine and then it will be with Jet2 who have paid out refunds on time.

amicissimma · 13/11/2020 10:41

If I did I would either book direct with the supplier, which as PP have discovered, is still not a guarantee of an easy refund, or with a company such as Trailfinders who have a good reputation for treating customers fairly, and keep all customer money in a separate account from their own costs (but they would still have to fight with a difficult supplier if necessary).

I'd also buy good insurance straight away, reading the Ts & Cs meticulously.

movingonup20 · 13/11/2020 10:56

I've booked 2021, but not a tour operator, we are going by ferry, not feeling like flying

lurker101 · 13/11/2020 10:58

Yes, but I’d pay by credit card, have annual travel insurance in place and stick with same provider for the following year’s renewal (my insurer will cover a 2022 holiday booked in 2020 if I do this, if I’ve read the small print correctly)

Daisyhoney · 13/11/2020 13:13

Already booked a UK holiday for 2021 but seriously considering booking a cruise for late 2022 to replace our cancelled cruise ( belated honeymoon ) from September. Really want a deluxe balcony and worried they may go fast - some suites have already gone and booking only opened 2 days ago
